1-Contrasting or opposing ideas
a)But and yet have the same meaning.(pero, aunque)

She was quite ill . However , she went to school.

e)While and whereas have the same meaning (mientras que...)
The soap opera is quite interesting while/whereas that one is quite boring.

2-Showing reason, cause
a)Because , as since and seeing that are followed by a complete sentence.(porque,como, puesto que)

b)Because of, due to are followed by a noun or a pronoun .(a causa de, debido a..)

3-Showing purpose
a)In order to and to are followed by the verb root.(para, con el fin,,)

For the negative we can use in order not to . She is studying in order not to fail.(con el fin que no...)
b)In order that and so that are followed by a sentence with a modal verb.(con tal que...)
She uses her video in order that/so that she can have a recording of her favourite shows.

4-Giving examples and adding information
a)For example, for instance , such as. (por ejemplo, tales como..)
Vegetables are a good source of vitamins ;for example/for instance, pepper has vitamine C.
Singers such as Michael Jackson and Madonna are popular throughtout the world.
b)Moreover, besides, in addition(to), as well as.(además, igual que...)
I'm too busy to take a holiday. Moreover/in addition /besides , I don't have the money.

c)Apart from and except (for)ess an exception to the general idea given in the sentence

5-Showing sequence and result
