The Band
For the past several years some of my co-workers and I have been writing and/or performing
songs for our office parties. Occasionally we write original music as well as lyrics, but more
often we just "filk" (write new lyrics to familiar tunes) so the audience can sing along. Among
the songs we have "filked" are Don McLean's "American Pie," John Denver's "Country Roads,"
"Home on the Range", and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Looking Out My Back Door" ("Palin's Theme"). Most of the song lyrics are written by my co-worker Bob Holden (with a lot of help/criticism from the rest of the band). Below is a picture of the "Lost Agency Ramblers" (also known as "Dr. Fulton's Keep-Your-Day-Job Band," "The Crosswalkers," and "The Usual Suspects") performing at the Bureau's farewell party for Barry Fulton, former associate director for
the Bureau of Information, U.S. Information Agency.

Below is a picture of the band at a dress rehearsal in June 1998. No, we don't usually
dress like this for work, although some of us come pretty close on casual Fridays ....
