Tax Forms in Watson Library

Watson Library is a good source for the federal tax forms you need. Actual tax forms are located in the Reference Room on the first floor of the library on a display to the left of the Reference Desk. These forms are free and you may take any that you need. However, we ask that, as a courtesy to other patrons, you don't take more than you need - ordering more forms is a lengthy process.

Also located at the Reference Desk is the set of reproducible tax forms. If you don't see the form you need in the display or don't know what form you need, ask the librarian at the Reference Desk for the reproducible set. This publication includes copies of the forms as well as a table of contents and a guide which will help you determine what form you need to fill out. These forms may be copied and the original returned to the Reference Desk. The IRS will not accept the originals.

Tax forms are also received by Watson Library as part of the Depository Library Program. These forms are located on the first floor of the library in the Government Documents Reading Room. The class number for tax publications is T22.51: and the class number for tax forms is T22.44/2:. Only the most current versions of these documents is retained. NSU Faculty, Staff and Students may check these documents out at the Circulation Desk for their normal loan period. Other patrons may check them out at the Reference Desk for a period of one week.

Tax forms are also available via the Internet from the IRS home page. The address for this page is http://www.irs.ustreas.gov. Before viewing or downloading these forms, you must have Adobe Reader loaded on your computer. This plugin will allow you to view and print these forms. If you do not have Adobe Reader on your computer you may download it from the Adobe site at http://www.adobe.com.

Information from the IRS is also available electronically via telnet to iris.irs.ustreas.gov and FTP to ftp.irs.ustreas.gov. To order forms or publications by phone, call (800)829-3676 or (703)487-4160 from your fax machine. For recorded tax information use TeleTax by calling (800)829-4477.

If you are still unsure about which tax form you need, please don't ask a librarian. You may contact the IRS at (800)829-1040 or visit their web site at http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/

To find tax forms, come to the Reference Desk on the first floor of Watson Library.
