Electronic Resources

Genie - The online card catalog for Northwestern State University. Genie includes 60% of NSU’s book holdings including all books added after May 1995. You may search Genie by author, title, Library of Congress Subject Heading or keyword. In addition, you may search the catalogs of approximately 20 other institutions in Louisiana.

Louis Databases - As part of the Louisiana Online University information System (LOUIS), Northwestern provides access to a large group of indices to periodical literature. These databases may be searched by author, title, keyword or LC subject heading.

READ is the electronic counterpart to the Reader’s Guide to Periodical Literature owned by Watson Library in paper format. READ indexes over 240 of the most popular general-interest magazines in the United States and Canada.

PAIS is the Public Affairs Information Services electronic index to journals concerned with social policy, politics, economics, finance, law, international relations, public administration, and government--with emphasis on issues that are subject to legislation.

IAC - Also known as Searchbank, this group of databases provides indexing to many journals in a wide variety of suject areas and includes backfiles back to 1980 to allow for some historical research. IAC also includes the full text of some articles indexed in it’s databases.

Internet - If you have never used the Internet before and would like to learn how, you may sign up for an introductory workshop. If you are an experienced Internet user and would like to learn more, you may sign up for an advanced workshop.
