A Grandaughter's Pain

It was very cold that winter day in January. When you would breathe you could see the steam come out of your mouth. It was also very quiet outside. I guess everyone was inside by the fireplace; nobody in sight.
Emily sat by her fireplace wondering and waiting. What is going to happen, she thought to herself . Maybe I will get a phone call or someone will come home and tell me. Why does my grandma have to leave me, why did god have to give her cancer. Doesn't he love me, Emily said. But I guess it is just part of life. Maybe someone will tell me everything will be all right, I wish, Emily said to herself.
"MOM, you're finally home, what is going to happen to grandma?", Emily said to Barbara. "Well dear, I do not know what to tell you right now. Would you like to go over to grandma's house?", Barbara said. "I guess so",Emily said. Maybe if I am with her she will get better.
All of a sudden it started to snow before Barbara and Emily got to the car. Oh mom, why does it have to snow, now it is going to take us a long time to get to grandmas house. Sweaty I wish I knew. but everything is just going to be fine, Barbara said.
The snow came down even harder. You could not even see the road. After a long quiet but horrible drive to grandma's house, they got there safe and sound. Grandma , Grandma are you O.K.., Emily said. Honey I am just fine, Martha said breathing heavily. Emily Laid her head on Martha's stomach. Grandma you will be just fine as long as I am with you, Emily said.
The room got quiet. some how everyone knew Martha was not going to be all right. Grandma, grandma what's wrong, wake up please, Emily said. Mom, why isn't she breathing. But Barbara knew she was dead. NO GRANDMA, NO, WAKE UP, Emily screamed.
As the morticians took Martha away Emily could not stop crying. Mom, I wish I could be with grandma. I already miss her. I know dear we all wish that she was here, Barbara said. Why can't I be with her, she will be all alone in Heaven, Emily Said.
The Funeral was three days later. And the snow was falling even harder and harder. Emily and Barbara went home, very slow of course. Mom, why did grandma have to leave us. It was her time, God needed her, Barbara said. Emily had kept on saying over and over again since Martha had died " I wish I could be with her".
All of the sudden the car had slipped on ice and they hit another car. Mom, I am in so much pain make the pain go away. Emily had said this about ten minutes after the car had been stopped by a tree on the said of the road. But Barbara had not been responding to Emily. The ambulance had finally got there and took them both to the hospital. Barbara had died at the scene of the accident and Emily had died about an hour after she had been at the hospital.
Emily got her wish to be with her grandma. Maybe if Emily had not of said that she wanted to be with her grandma she would still be alive. I guess we will never know.
