Samhain

Samhain(pronounced SOW-WAIN) was the Festival of the Dead in the Celtic calendar. It is both the end and the beginning of a new year, a time of letting go of the past and looking forward to the future. Samhain marks the third Harvest, when all animals that had been hulled from the herds were slaughtered and the meat prepared for the winter storage.

In the year as a day, Samhain is the first deep dark after the final colors of the sunset fade. It is associated with northwest. In the wheel of the year, the seed falls into dormancy, a little death, that it may rest until its time to be reborn.
