- Mental Model
- Belief and Conviction

- Structural Conflicts
Symptoms:
- A manager under high stress and workload.
- Poor Asian economic outlook adds to the problems of the manager.
- There is hardly any quality time for himself and family.
- There is no meaning in work, in life - just react to external tides / events.
- The Manager wants to find out how to have much time for ourselves to pursue happiness, yet no stress and most of all, get more result / output that is effective!?
Change:
- A faint idea of reversing a pattern of meaningless life.
Causes:
- Not knowing how to go about it.
Fixes:
- The idea of trying to "reverse high workstress to tranquillity in mind yet with higher productivity" is just a faint idea, not belief and conviction.
- There is no belief and conviction because there is no clear methodology / evidence as a possibility that the idea can really work. (Hence people tends to ask : HOW?). But clear methodology needs belief and conviction for constant practice, experimentation, exploration and deep learning. It is a vicious circle - a negative reinforcing loop.
- A successful person may share his experience / methodology on his successes, but a listener may not have the belief / conviction to practice the same.
- The above vicious circle cannot be broken if one keeps looking for methodology (asking many "how?"), nor generating a self-deceiving illusion on belief / conviction alone without creative exploration / experimentation with discipline practice.
- An important new mental model should be like that of a true scientific mind : Life long pursuit of a theory or hypothesis with devotion / dedication to prove the theory / hypothesis right or wrong.
- The new mental model should read : "There must be a way to have much time for myself to pursue happiness, yet no stress and most of all, get more result / output that is effective!"
- The manager is coached to be consciously aware of the new mental model, then he should critically examine his own strength, weakness of his personal attributes in term of Knowledge, Techniques and Skills that can bring about change towards his own vision. Disciplined system thinking needs to be applied to his environment that is under his sphere of influence, which should then focus on developing his staff to their fullest potentials.
- The manager is further advised to relate his experience / observation to this coach for further exchange of views and insights gained through Outsights.
