What is Outsights?


I have received several enquiries on the above subject from some Cyberspace visitors to my homepage after knowing that I am one of the associates of Outsights . Below is my own personal views in the understanding of Outsights. Most of the information about Outsights can be found in Outsights homepage. Currently the subsciption to general Knowledgebase is FREE.


Outsights is a Knowledge Database in Internet on various Domains of Knowledge like System Thinking, Learning Organisation, Cybernetic, Management theories, TQM, Creativity, Investment, Leadership, ISO 9000, ISO 14000, Personal Development, Reengineering, etc. etc.

It is participated by two groups of people:

In a way, the associate is also an Internet coach. The knowledge database service is available 24 hours everyday.

My own perspective of what Outsight could be is as per Leveraging Knowledge Society

What do you mean by associates' "revenue" "income" as self-discipline improvement?

Outsight allocates a substantial portion of the subscription fee to be distributed among associates, based on users' feedback on how useful the objects solutions (i.e.. coaching ideas) to them by filling up a form. The computer will process the score cards for individual associate.

The other portion of the fee is to the Outsight as payment of the invested incurred and return of their initial and on going investment, esp. the computer / software system development.


A veteran Professional coach wrote:

There are two contextual aspects of Outsights

Once approved by Outsights.(eMail-Gene Bellinger) as associate, he will be coaching new associates on how to translate one's wealth of knowledge and experience into Object Formats.

I find the format particularly useful for my own Disciplined Thinking : i.e. categorising any context into [Goal] [Fact] [Symptoms] [Change] [Cause] [Fix], help me to be very sharp in my observation and hence getting into the insights of things.

As an associate with Outsights, I am motivated by the followings:

The possible monetary rewards is mere OUTCOME of the effectiveness of the above.

You could communicate with eMail-Gene Bellinger on your interest. I could also share my experience with you on writing Objects. For example, you present a context and we will complete the jipsaw puzzle using Object formats.

Another query from a veteran coach

Hi Andrew -

Can you tell me what this "Object format" is? I have never seen nor heard of it before. Am I the "odd guy out" here? Where did you find it? Or did you design it yourself? I'm very curious. How is it intended to work?

I am also curious about where this "program" originated? Did you invent it? Did you get it from some class or training you attended?

It was started by Outsights

I presume it started with an interesting concept with much sound foundation on latest Management theory and Research work. The founder transferred such concept into applicable computer software program whereby concept search from a large knowledge database is made possible.

In this way, it becomes so much friendly and easier for user to LOOK for "exactly" (or near to it) that he or she wants. If not, he or she could email the associate for further insights if the closest solution is still not satisfactory. Hence the associate is also an Internet Community Coach. If the problem proves too difficult, it could be posted at BBS for other associates to tackle the problem.

On 14th April, 98 Sherryl Stalinski, email , homepage, wrote, when invited by undersigned to join Outsights.

I'm not quite sure I understand exactly how you would invite my participation in Outsights as assoicate. The Foundation I am running is a new start-up and requires an enormous amount of time and energy right now. I don't think I would be able to offer much as an "associate" as it seems like that would require a significant amount of energy in order to make my involvement effective. As I'm not in the consulting "biz" anymore, all I really have to offer are my own experiences.

I share with you the above types of commitment as I am in the same shoe, more or less. Then How does Outsights come in? This is my story....

Becoming an Outsights associate is NOT a job in the usual sense. It is not a separate "task" to be performed. To me, it is a discipline with enormous sense of fulfilment and learning for myself. It is like a retreat, a reflection of the day events, an insightful thought of what I say, what I do, what interaction I have with people, what new insights. .... Like some Christian, it is like Prayer-time, a moment with God, getting in touch with the soul... Precisely it is because we (or you) are very busy, more so such discipline is necessary. The product of such discipline is the Object solutions, which are shared with the Internet Community.

That is what Outsights need, YOUR EXPERIENCE. The coded Objects represent your Wisdom / Insights of your own reflection and to benefit others. When others write to you on your Objects solution, you could provide coaching or just learning for yourself from their feedback. Hence associate is not really a "consultant".

Let me know how I could contribute (articles, feedback, etc) to Outsights without an on-going time commitment if appropriate.

Hence instead of contribute articles, break the article down into Objects, about your insights, new perspectives while interacting, counselling, learning with the people around you / or projects that you do. Imagine, million and million of people may not have the opportunity like you have (say involved in some challenging, difficult projects etc.) and they can access and tap your wisdom through Outsights.

On average, I spend 15-20 minutes a day on coding objects, in the process I am doing reflection of my day.

Ok. This makes sense. Translate thoughts on events of the day etc? Explain "objects" for me, though. I got a drift, but am still kinda fuzzy. After doing a 15-20 minute synopsis / analysis... then what? Upload it somewhere? Tell me more. I am officially intrigued and interested at this point.

eMail to Outsights your coded Object Solutions

Sherryle related her latest experience: i.e., Sunday night I spent 5 hours at the Emergency ward at one of Michigan's finest hospital systems. The staff was so into "following rules" that their service became ineffective and downright dangerous. I have a thought or two on that. Fortunately, I am pretty well connected here locally and a friend of mine is Director of Public Relations at this hospital system so we were able to resolve some follow up issues. But what about Joe Average who doesn't have the benefit of knowing the right people?

An Example of Object coding, uisng your experience (there are many ways to code an object). First I normally started with observations of events and code under [Symptoms]:

Now, ask yourself, what is the Focus, the message, the insights, new perspective. May be we are thinking on "How to effect a change to people 'not stuck with rules but Pinciples'", then develop further coding e.g. Code more Symptoms on how certain behaviour creates more Problems and stress to everyone concerned. Analyse what is the [Causes] {this is where some theories could be used, e.g. Dr. Deming, System Thinking, LO, etc.}

Then proposed solution (with a particular group of people in mind e.g. Hospital administrators, or managers, or staff nurse, or govt. agency in charge of hospitals, or sponsor, or patients etc. etc.) and to make sure the [Fixes] address all the described [Symptoms] so that the target groups could gain insights / knowledge or possible action to take to make thing better.

Eventually a complete Object consists of [Gaol] [Fact] [Symtpom] [Change] [Cause] [Fix], with omission in some cases.

Creativity thinking like above can generate multiple perspectives giving rise to many Object solutions. Assuming that target group is one of Outsights subscribers, the persons concerned could benefit from your insights or solutions.

I am optimistic about your wealth of knowledge and experience esp. in your projects work with kids, youth. And these could be coded in objects for their benefits. One of the usefulness of objects is users can seek knowledge on DEMAND, i.e. no need to browse through ton of information, but key in some key phrases, concepts, problem description etc. the computer will do context mapping to find the best fit.

Now you see that writing Objects is not an "extra job" and it is irrespective or what currently we are pre-occupied with. In fact, it just creates resonance with what we do everyday in a more meaningful way.

As I assume by your sample, with as many "symptoms" and facts as necessary? hmmm.... Ironically I always end up seeing the "cause" as some form of expression of a lack of respect for self/other/natural environment and the "fix" always as an expression of respect and/or compassion for self/other/natural environment. I have yet to come across a "symptom" which does not fit this bill in one way or another.

As you develop more Objects, you will find that many of the Universal Principles needs to be further elaborated, experimented, explored with use of certain methodology, techniques, skills etc. in the actual context of the happening, thus enlargeing our own knowledge and Insights, hopefully benefiting others also.

Ok, assume I whip together a few of these pearls of wisdom (which, in my opinion, remains to be seen. I admit those of us in the Stalinski household tend to march to a different drummer, but how useful our outlook on life is remains to be seen). Then what? What do I do with these 15-minute debriefed synopses? Who prescreens these contributions before making them available to users? (i.e., some associate types up something like this: Goal: perfect children. Symptom: bad behavior. Cause: bad seed. Fix: trade child in for new model.)? How does "quality control" work in the environment of Outsights?

Objects developed shall be emailed to eMail-Gene Bellinger, the Outsights founder. He has to make sure a few basic things fulfilled, e.g. the format of the object must be complied, otherwise the computer cannot make any sense out of it. He may comment on the "Quality" contents as a Coach, and the system is built in such a way that, eventually the Quality content shall be judged by the users through their feedback.

Who are the "users" of Outsights? Where do they come from? How many are there currently and projected? (You may have these answers on your site or at Outsights already, I just can't remember offhand).

Target is 2 million subscribers, currrently hundreds (just started) to all sort of people, particular people in organisations, who need one another to get things done.
