Realisation of a building or manufacturing complex requires a documented blueprint: a collection of plans from different perspectives, engineering details, reference Standards etc. Day to day construction is guided by such essential documentation with necessary changes, modification, review by all parties concerned.
What is the equivalent of an Organisation documented Blueprint towards its expressed Vision? Where is the day to day practising field with constant reference to a set of documented blueprint for necessary changes, modification, review by all parties concerned?
It is hard to imagine construction of a building or manufacturing complex relying only a few low level detailed plan like a few piping drawings or kitchen layout plan. Surprisingly organisations with an expressed vision to realise do just that i.e. relying on some work instructions for shopfloor staff.
Some organisations claim ISO 9000 documentation as the equivalent blueprint. But their organisational behaviour is such that part of the documentation is referred to by management team only once a year, during external auditors surveillance visit. What construction project allows blueprint reference only once a year?
End.
