The following outline is a guide only. Any material from the readings (even if not covered in class) may be included on assignments and exams.
You should be able to accomplish the following tasks and identify the following functions/keys/terms before leaving the lab today:
Chapter 1:
1. What is the main difference between DOS and Windows?
2. What is a GUI?
Chapter 2:
1. Identify and correctly insert a floppy diskette into the floppy (A:)
drive
2. Turn on the computer.
3. Correctly use a mouse
4. Use and/or identify the following keyboard keys:
Chapter 4
1. Identify the cursor
2. Be able to distinguish the desktop from a window
3. Distinguish between a file and a program/application
4. GUI - Graphical User Interface
5. Understand the difference between hardware and software
6. Identify an icon
Chapter 5
1. Launch a program from an icon
2. Identify the pointer (also known as the arrow)
3. Identify a program/application
4. Save a program
5. Use the Save As command and its difference from the Save option
6. Start a program from an icon
7. Use a pull-down menu
8. Run two programs at the same time and switch from one to the other
9. Print a file
