The following is a list of Dutch ships in the combined force of William III on 27 July 1689.
A letter written by Nottingham on 22 July 1689 informed Torrington that Tourville was seen to pass Gibraltar on 2nd/l2th July and that His Majesty believed the Toulon squadron to be at Belle Isle or gone to Ireland-which latter circumstance would be of very pernicious consequence ' what with Major Kirke ... in the Lough of Derry and the Count de Solmes... embarking for Ireland with I2,OOO men'. The Secretary could only suggest that the Admiral should send scouts toward Belle Isle. The letter assured him that supplementary provisions for the fleet which was supposed to be victualled to the 23rd of August (see p. I74), were in store at Plymouth and it told him that he should send for those provisions while remaining on station. A `Council of Warr' had already on the 22nd decided the fleet should sail for Sillia and keep 10 Leagues west from it [to] meet the Victuallers whome the Admr ll had Comanded to meet him there'. So (another council first held) Torrington, interpreted the Secretary's injunction broadly, on the 27th, line of battle formed, ye Dutch leading ye Van with their Starboard tack on board', the Red next and the Blue in their wake laid course toward the Soundings from which a watch, though distant could be kept on Brest and attempt thence to penetrate St Georges Channel in force prevented.
To these must be added Europa(48) Kap.Hidde de Vries, Brak(36) Tierck de Vries, Windhond(34) Kap. Jantema-Friesland ships, Clansoog (64-325) Kap van Zijll Veere (60- 300)Kap Mosselman, the former an Amsterdam, the latter a Zeeland vessel -all no doubt with appropriate places in the line. Evertsen's flagship Walcheren, a Zeeland ship of seventy with a crew of 400, which commonly took station between the Westfriesland and the Amsterdam, had been sent into Portsmouth as a result of her mishap on the 19th/29th. The Damiate (36) Kap. van der Gijsen, of the Amsrerdam admiralty, had gone into Plymouth with 'King Fisher with all the prizes'. With van der Gijsen was operating a vessel unnamed by van der Zaan.
