Genealogy - Dutch / British Migration Interest Group

We are a small group of (mostly) English genealogists who have found a connection with the Low Countries on our respective family trees who are acting together as a self-help group.

Our objectives are

• locating useful records for this type of research, and noting which language(s) they are written in
  • original records
  • URL list for information available electronically
  • Dutch / English translation lists of genealogical terms
  • translation abilities of people within the group for the languages in which records are likely to be written
    • Dutch
    • French
    • German
    • Greek (?)
    • Italian
    • Latin
    • Russian (?)
    • Spanish
• increasing our awareness of the history, especially
  • the evolution of the Low Countries, especially what the different parts of it were called throughout the timeframe we are collectively researching
  • the links between the two areas
  • the wars between the two areas
  • the wars between either area and other areas, and the impact it had on the other area
    • for example, whenever England and France were at war, the Dutch trading ships had to sail around the top of Scotland on their way to the far east, instead of taking the shorter route more economic route through the English Channel
• providing a members interests area where the names of interest and contact details are publicised
