| History | |||||
| Ali begain life as a foundling. He was found on the doorstep of a convent. Always independent, Ali was not long for living there. As soon as he was old enough to somewhat fend for himself, he took to the streets. His dreams of finding work as an apprentice to some tradesman never came to fruition, as he was to slovenly in appearance to attract much attention. Consequently, he began the trade of a theif. Finding that he was very quick, but not wanting to have to worry about running all the time, Ali became a beggar. He had a few friends, all vagrants or prostitutes, which is necessary when one is a beggar (otherwise one gets beat up and losing money a lot). He showed promise as a theif, being able to attract people with his childish visage, then quickly picking their pockets as they were bending down to drop in donations. He became able to notice when mages were disguising their wealth, learning how to penetrate the simple illusions so many used to create a false money pouch. One day a prominent merchant noticed his fine features underneath the grime and took him as a slave. What seemed like salvation was soon to be proven otherwise. Ali was beaten and abused mentally, often locked in small dark rooms for punishment when he tried to comfort or help other slaves. One day a digitoligist, Anwar, was summoned to handle the merchant's finances. While casting a simple spell, Anwar was surprised to find a slave boy discretely watching him and exactly mimicking his actions. Since Zol, the merchant, owed him a favor, and noticing the bruises on the boy, Anwar took Ali as a ward and apprentice. Anwar was a kind master, always with an open ear and heart. His grand library allowed Ali to learn much about being a digitoligist. Recently, he travelled, on a trading voyage, to Calimshan and the southern realms. Anwar knew many other mathematicians and mages in this area. He has since mysteriously disappeared, and agents of Zol have been showing up around the city (Calimport) for no good reason... | |||||
