Description: One word describes a weren: intimidating. Standing slightly over two meters tall, and weighing around two hundred kilograms of mostly muscle, the average weren earns that description. Weren are humanoid, and walk upright. They are covered in dense fur, which is normally shades of brown, grey, or white, but which can change colour to suit the weren's surroundings, acting as camouflage. Weren hands are paw-like, and they have retractable claws. Also, the male of the species' mouth has large canines protruding from the lower jaw. These are often decorated with markings.
History: It is unknown why the weren evolved to sentience. They didn't need tool use to survive, as they were almost at the top of the food on their home world of Kurg, and their natural claws and teeth would've suited them nicely. Nevertheless, sentient they are.
Their history as a sentient race is marred with violence. They progressed much as humans did, as hunters and gatherers at first. Tribes fought among each other for territory and hunting. Later, tribes began to practice primitive diplomacy and smaller tribes allied against larger ones. Larger tribes built fortifications that eventually turned into cities. Soon, most smaller tribes joined a city of their choosing. There were hundreds of these cities (which by League standards, would be considered fortified villages). The cities claimed all the territory around them, and expanded that territory whenever they saw fit. As a result, cities eventually came into conflict with one another.
Hundreds of years of constant war against each other followed. Although the weren of various cities (usually ones more isolated from the fighting) tried to pursue goals in the fields of science and literacy, the constant fighting made it very difficult to be anything but a warrior.
Then, the t'sa arrived. They wanted to stop the constant bloodshed, as did certain groups of weren. The t'sa taught them about diplomacy and other means of solving disputes. Although the violence didn't stop, the t'sa calmed it. Trade was also introduced (more extensively) by the t'sa. However, the t'sa always worked behind the scenes with the weren race. They didn't want to disturb their culture too much. The weren began their age of enlightenment but the threat of war is always there.
Psychology and Culture: Although many people think of the weren as savage thugs, they're wrong. The weren are honourable warriors, and have strict codes of honour that they follow in battle. Although each tribe's specific code is different, virtually no weren will attack helpless opponents, kick someone when they're down, or stab a person in the back. Also, the weren seem to enjoy philosophy, an art only recently developed on their world, and many poets and thinkers among the weren have emerged. For recreation, many weren enjoy non-lethal hand-to-hand combat (no claws) or survival games, much like those used by the human military to train.
The space faring weren that the t'sa uplifted
are amazed by the diversity of life. Although they don't particularly care
for technology too much, they are in awe of the great ships used to travel
the heavens, and of the great weapons used to blow them up.
