Starship Weapons


The following is a list of starship weapons unique to the VoidRunner campaign world, as well as short descriptions of them.

Weapon Descriptions

DURG Cannon (PL7)
The DURG cannon (depleted uranium rail gun) is an improvement over its predecessor, the rail cannon.  It fires compact, volatile uranium slugs at near light speeds.  The slug slices through armor, then explodes, causing heavy damage.

Pulse Cannon (PL6)
This weapon was developed near the end of PL6 (during the zaishan war).  It was an affordable, more effective alternative to the laser and IR laser cannons, which were commonly used back then.  It fires a simple energy pulse, which although not very impressive today, served its purpose in the past.  Largely outdated, some older ships still use this weapon.

Ion Cannon (PL6)
Designed to incompacitate ships instead of destroying them, this weapon interferes with the target's shipboard computers, causing internal havoc, and possibly even shutting the entire ship down.   Still used today.

Proton Ray (PL7)
This weapon is a linear accelerator capable of focusing and firing a coherent beam of protons at an enemy hull, cutting through even neutronite armor with relative ease.  This weapon was only recently developed by the t'sa, and hasn't been installed on more than a dozen ships.

Zica Laser (PL7)
The zica laser was developed by a joint human-t'sa science project.  Used primarily for orbital bombardment, the zica laser's intent was not to be used on other ships (although it's a very effective weapon).  The idea was to create a more accurate space-to-ground weapon instead of simply using bombs.  With the zica, military ground installations can be targeted without huge risk to civilian populations, unlike the clumsy nuclear and fusion bombs used in the past.

Graviton Torpedo (PL7)
This weapon was designed by the human military to keep ships from running away.  If the torpedo hits the ship, special damage is inflicted:  1d4/1d6/1d6+2.  Whatever the number, this is the number of rounds that the ship's warp engine is totally offline (note:  this is treated as Energy (e) damage for purposes of armor absorbtion).  If the torp hits the compartment where the warp drive is located, the damage is as follows:  1d6/1d8/1d8+3.

Retractable Launch Rack (PL6)
A variation on the standard launch rack, a retractable rack usually stays inside of the ship in a small room.  When about to enter battle, an airlock in the room opens and the rack extends.  When all of the missles are expended, the rack retracts back and the room is re-pressurized so that crew members can reload the rack.  It takes one round to extend and one round to retract the rack (this time includes de- and re-pressurization times).
