One of our older models, the StelTech Havoc Class Fighter is still popular for border patrollers today.  Basically a flying x-ray laser, this ship is cheap enough to be bought in mass numbers, which makes up for their small size and fairly-dated armor.  For the price of one large system ship, you could get about ten of these small maneuverable fighters.  Sure they may not be the most up to date fighters around, but they've proven themselves again and again
