Only Rhys didn't make it to this adventure, so Dalek wasn't present.
After all of the excitement around the rakon homeworld, diplomats are sent to begin formalities with the rakon people. Goresh is one of the diplomats chosen, as his first contact experience with the dralasites put him in the spotlight with many League ambassadors. The heroes remain at the rakon homeworld for roughly a four months. About one month after first contact, the kybus show up and demand to be allowed to talk with the rakon as well. The heroes got a chance to see kybus diplomats in action (which have all the appeal of a four year old kid throwing a temper tantrum). Anyways, Goresh's role is slowly becoming less and less important in the diplomatic talks, so it looks like the heroes will be able to leave soon.
One day, while still in the Qua'bal system, an diplomatic clerk approached Kurknoon. Apparently there had been seven murders and two abductions on Kurg, the weren homeworld. All were of Kurknoon's tribe. Those who were murdered were shot in the backs of their heads while they slept (an honorless way to die) with a laser weapon (restricted weapon on Kurg). What was even more significant was that there was a note left at the village elder's house, explaining that Kurknoon had made some enemies and these deaths were a direct result of his actions. Kurknoon was furious after learning this and wanted to leave for Kurg as soon as possible. The others, not wanting to argue with a pissed weren, started packing.
They headed out for Kurg the next day. The trip through warp was quiet, everyone wanting to stay out of Kurknoon's way. The group saw newscasts of the latest developments on Aleer, where for all intents and purposes, a civil war was in full swing. The mechalus had repeatedly denied military aid from the League government, fearing that the Aleer for Aleerins movement would grow.
The Phoenix reached Kurg where they were intercepted by the t'sa guardian fleet orbiting the planet. After a brief discussion, Kurknoon was allowed down to the planet, but only after agreeing to wear a tracking device and remove all gear higher than PL4. He was ferried down to the surface, several kilometers from his village. As he approached his old home, the guards recognized him and insulted him. Knowing that combat wouldn't do anything to help him, Kurknoon restrained himself (barely) and only fought back verbally. He was allowed in, where he went directly to the elder's house. As she saw him coming, she approached him and belted him in the face with the back of her fist, blaming him for the deaths of the seven warriors, and possibly the deaths of two others. He bowed to her and asked for forgiveness and information, only to be booted in the face. He explained that he would find who did this and kill them. The elder could tell him nothing much more than he had already learned. So, he left after taking some more guff from the elder, in which she told him that she never had high aspirations for him, but this was even lower than what she expected.
He got to the t'sa shuttle and headed back to the Phoenix. Kurknoon asked to see the records of everyone who visited the planet from the outside around the time of the murders. He was told by the t'sa that the records had been transferred back to Taasa, and that he would probably have to go to the Records Office there to attain a copy.
Another quiet trip through warp, and the group got to the Taasa system, another very traffic heavy system in the League. After docking at the orbital space station, the group got a ride down to the surface, caught a skycab, and headed over to the Records Hall. After cutting through some red tape, the PCs picked up the records they were looking for, only to find... a dead end. Nothing out of the ordinary at all, no one tried to run the t'sa blockade or anything strange like that. The group headed back to their ship, uncertain of where to go or what to do (and Kurknoon was very mad).
Once aboard their ship, there was an incoming message. They accepted the call only to see a human male standing over a badly beaten chained up weren. He seemed to take quite a bit of delight in beating the crap out of the helpless weren, and challenged Kurknoon to come and get him. The man said that he was at Kurknoon's old home. He then bragged about how he would kill Kurknoon. The message ended, and Kurknoon explained where his old home was: an old pirate base! Kurknoon, before meeting the heroes, had been a pirate! He gave them directions to his old (now abandoned) stomping grounds, and soon they were off.
When they reached the system, they came out of warp and proceeded to the third planet in the system, a barren, desolate place where the base was located (it had formerly been a small mining base, but was abandoned as the mines dried up; later, the pirates found it and decided to use it for a while). The heroes scanned the area but found no other ships, although the base's fusion reactor was online. They proceeded to land at the base's landing pad. They debarked the Phoenix and headed down the docking tunnel, but knowing that they were walking into a trap, all wore e-suits, just in case of depressurization. Good thing they did, as the airlock to the main complex filled up with chlorine gas instead of oxygen. Soon, the airlock opened into the main complex, where the heroes were greeted by the sound of the mysterious man's voice yelling "die die die!" over the intercom. All of a sudden, about thirty flying A-eyes appeared, all mounting various small weapons and moving to attack the heroes. Everyone ducked back out of the main complex into the airlock. Morgan and Kurknoon lobbed a couple of frag grenades into the mass of A-eyes, then ducked back. It turned out the A-eyes were generated by a nearby holo-emitter, which was completely destroyed by the grenades. As the heroes advanced through the old mining base, Goresh wanted to check out the old security office. He went in and linked up with the computer inside, only to be zapped by a surge trap for a couple of stuns.
The PCs went to the residential wing but on their way decided to head over to the comm tower. They turned down the long corridor towards the comm tower and Ezekiel and Kurknoon headed up into the tower. Soon after they left, Morgan (who was the rearguard, as he didn't want to be the one to set off any traps) heard a noise coming from behind him. He turned around to see a rather large droid moving down the corridor towards him. He and Goresh lept out of the corridor and into the comm tower as the thing anchored itself (it was moving on treads and had a large frontal shield and a rear bracing mechanism) and opened up with twin laser smgs! They called for backup, and were soon joined by Ezekiel and Kurknoon. The bad thing was, whenever anyone tried to shoot at the thing, it fired back and fired hard. Kurknoon decided to blow the thing away, and stepped out into the corridor to shoot it... a mistake! The robot revealed a hidden area behind its shield where it was packing a rail gun! 2 mortal was done to Kurknoon as the droid scored a hit. However, he used his only last resort point to make the shot miss, then fired back at the droid. It took three full rounds, and the combined efforts of all the party's weaponry, but the thing was finally destroyed (luckily for them, the rail gun only had enough ammo for one shot).
Searching the residential area and finding nothing more than annoying booby traps, the heroes headed to the water recycling area. Here they hit paydirt: standing across a pool of water was the mysterious man, along with the two weren he had captured. They were tied up and badly beaten. A catwalk lead across the pool right to him, while there was a small edge around the side of the pool. The man wanted to fight Kurknoon, one on one, in hand to hand. Kurknoon wanted the two weren to be released first, to which the man agreed to. Ezekiel and Goresh helped the weren out of the room and back to the ship. Kurknoon, after checking the water to make sure it was water and not acid or something, headedonto the catwalk, the mysterious man coming towards him. At once, they began to fight, Kurknoon doing a bit of damage to him. The man however was much harder than Kurknoon expected, and instead of fighting back, grabbed onto Kurknoon. Suddenly, cerametal bands sprung from his fingers, arms, and knees, gripping Kurknoon like a vice. The man said he hoped Kurknoon liked to swim, as two small charges went off on either side of the catwalk, knocking it, Kurknoon, and the man into the water. As Kurknoon tried to free himself it became apparent to him that this was no cybered up human, but an android, and a heavy one at that! It dragged Kurknoon down into the water tank a fair way, but finally Kurknoon got free of the thing and swam to the surface. Just as he crawled out of the pool, the robot blew up way down in the depths.
Morgan and he ran towards the Phoenix as Atrus notified them that he was reading power surges in the station's fusion reactor. As they got on board, Ezekiel took off, and just in time too, as the fusion reactor blew up, wiping the base out but luckily only doing cosmetic damage to the Phoenix itself.
The group headed back to League territory. This time, they did some things while in warp. Goresh and Morgan got into contact with people they know, trying to find out the mystery man's identity. Although Morgan's contacts turned up empty, one of the ambassadors Goresh knew from back on Aleer told him that there were rumors of a League AI gone mad, who hired itself out as an elite assassin, using its hacking abilities and its remotes to get to places normally inaccessable. This heroes were able to comfirm this to themselves when the mystery man sent them a message, telling them that he hadn't forgotten about them, and that because they had inconveinienced him, he had hacked their accounts for a total of 10,000 credits!
Finally, a very pissed off party saw a final newscast for the session. In it, the dralasites had finally accepted membership into the League. Unfortunately, over the past week or so, Aleer separatists had been able to take control of several key military platforms on Aleer, and were slowly quelling an resistance. The civil war on Aleer was slowly dying out, and it seems as though Aleer and the mechalus people will be leaving the League soon. More bad news came a few days later. Talks with the rakon government were going exceptionally well, but apparently the kybus were not too happy about the rakon favoring the League. The kybus bombed fourteen outer League colonies into the ground, with only a handful of survivors escaping. Even as the heroes watched, the newscaster told that the League fleet in Qua'bal was engaging a kybus strike force.
War was formally declared.....
