Foreshadows

Well, the guys who play Morgan and Goresh (Mike and James) weren't here this week.  Also, Kurnon was introduced, to replace Steve's fallen character, Whooshra.

First of all, the heroes started out in orbit around the dralasite homeworld.  They had been here for about a week, repairing their ship (ie the huge hole the dralasites cut in the side), and talking with the dralasites.  They soon headed back to the League, as they all knew they should report this new race immediately.  As they got back into League space, they transmitted a message to League headquarters, informing them of the situation.  They were asked to head to Cestus.  Once there, they were all split up and mercilessly bombarded with questions about the dralasites for almost two days.  Afterwards, the League set up a large group of diplomats and personel (heroes included) to head back to the dralasites and begin more formal talks.  These lasted about three months before the heroes were allowed to leave (the year is now 2427).

Upon returning to League space, the heroes saw a news report detailing the worsening situation on Aleer.  Aleerin politics are basically split between two factions: pro-Leaguers and Aleer for Aleerins.  The government is currently pro-League in majority, but that may change, as evidence has recently been uncovered that the T'sa Cluster had a hand in the last election, rigging it so the pro-League candidates would win (t'sa representatives angrily deny this).  Now that ths has been brought to light, most of the pro-League gov't officials are being put on trial, accused of interfering with democracy and vote tampering.

Returning to Cestus, the heroes put up an advertisement on the Grid for a new shiphand needed.  Sorting through a list of garbage applicants, they eventually came across an experienced ship gunner and heavy weapons specialist.  The hulking weren Kurnon made his entrance and was almost instantly hired.  The group was impressed by his raw physical strength, huge weapons, and massive weren battle blade (refered to as the "can-opener" with Dalek being the can:).

Soon after Kurnon made himself at home, the group received a call from Councilor Milities, a mechalus of the League Council.  He wished to meet with them and discuss a mission that the group had been recommended for.  So, the heroes headed over to his office, inside finding him and Ambassador Weglal of the KME.  Milities explained that since the League made contact with the kar'soran, they've been looking to buy info from them on any other sentients they have encountered.  Negotiations have finally reached a breakthrough and the KME is ready to give the information.  Milities simply wishes for the heroes to go to Soras, the kar'soran homeworld, and get the info (this was one of those diplomatic formalities; it looks better with ambassadors and diplomats talking in a big ceremony than simply sending the info through subspace).  He also explained that normally more seasoned diplomats would be sent, but Ambassador Weglal recommended the heroes, as they have proven resourceful time and time again.

The heroes agree, and the League pays for their supplies for the journey (one which will take roughly 3 1/2 weeks at top speed with no delays) and the heroes set off (Goresh stays behind, as he is needed to help with the talks with the dralasites).  Its a long journey, by far the longest the heroes have ever done all at once, and ways are thought of to pass the time.  Ezekiel gets Morgan to teach him the fine art of gambling while Kurnon frequently spars with Dalek in the cargo hold (beating the crap out of him more times than one).

Eventually, the boredom ends as they enter the kar'soran communications grid and are assailed by thousands of advertisements and infomercials for various products.  They reach the Soras system (which is crawling with kar'soran vessels, as well as several of unknown origin), dock with the main space dock, and are greeted by a kar'soran guide to the planet.  He introduces himself as Dar.  The heroes are shuttled down and get a tour of the Grand Markets, a domed group of stores and merchants covering an area roughly five to seven times the size of New York, the average building being about fourteen stories high.

Dar shows them the various sites, and along the way Ezekiel picks up a custom made katana and a kar'soran offers to sell Dalek illegal weapons (which he refuses!  I've never known Rhys to turn down weapons).

As they are being given a tour of one of the more historic ground level market areas, the crowd of kar'soran parts as a procession of aliens moves through.  In the procession are three races of aliens; the first is a tall, skinny, insectile humanoid race, bone white skin stretched over its bones (later identified as a kybus); the second is a race of green skinned humanoids with four eyes, dressed in rags (the gorene, see GMs log four for where the heroes recognized them); and the last race, tall but gaunt humanoids covered by a light layer of fur (identified as the jendevi).  As the procession moves by, one of the gorene notices the PCs, but doesn't notice where he is going, and walks straight into the back of the kybus in front of him.  Like lightning, the kybus turns around and uses its small claws to rake the gorene's eyes, blinding it.  Then, it and several other kybus join in and begin beating the gorene severely.  Kurnon steps in to stop the beating and almost initiates a fight himself, but luckily Dar is able to talk the kybus out of anything rash, reminding them that kar'soran law doesn't allow public beatings of slaves.  The heroes question Dar why the kar'soran tolerate slavery, to which he dances around the question.

They then retire to their rooms where they prepare for the gala dinner they will attend in the Towers of Commerce, the center of the kar'soran government.   As the heroes leave for the dinner, they see that Morgan has taken off for one of the many gambling houses, and won't be attending.  Once at the dinner, they are treated to a large dinner, followed by hours of boring speeches made by various regional directors and high ranking KME diplomats.  Unexpectedly, Ezekiel is asked to make a speech, which he manages to pull off without offending anyone, and the heroes are given a data slate containing info on all the races the KME has encountered.  After the dinner, the groups retires for the night where they check out the data slate (the info on it can be seen in the non-member races section).

After two more days of various diplomatic functions, the PCs shuttle back up to where their ship is parked and prepare to leave.  As they are in the docking bay with their ship, a gorene enters and runs towards them, shouting at the heroes.  As he gets half way to them, two kybus turn up with laser cannons firing, killing the gorene run-away.  As Ezekiel and Dalek run inside the ship to get their weapons, Kurnon approaches the fallen gorene.  With what strength it has left, the gorene simply says "I know what's coming" and hands Kurnon a data crystal, then dies.  The two kybus come (they didn't notice the exchange), one of which picks up the body, the other turns to Kurnon and simply says "Sorry about the mess".  When Kurnon askes why they killed him, they ignore him, which makes him very mad.  He runs towards them, meaning to attack, but sliped in some blood and falls flat of his face (natural to attack 20, tee hee :).  The two kybus quickly pounced on him, attacking as best they could, but only doing a couple of minor wounds (they had laser cannons, but were only using their claws, as it was a melee fight).  Kurnon managed to get himself up, and the next round he evaded their physical attacks but scored none himself.  Finally, he got a shot that connected (using his claws) and boy did it connect, doing 5 mortal (1 mortal left) and nearly chopping the thing in half!  The other kybus kept attacking in a blind rage but was eventually knocked silly by Kurnon (who was now just using his fists....with power martial arts).  The kar'soran authorities arrived soon and kept the heroes from leaving for a short while while they viewed a recording of what happened from a nearby security camera.  Although Kurnon charged them, it was actually the kybus who struck the first blow.  Also, the weapons the kybus had were illegal on the station.  These two factors saved the heroes' asses, and they were released and allowed to leave.

They made it half way back to the League before, once again, someone rained on their parade.  A graviton mine went off, yanking them out of warp in a system, near a planet.  Two pirate or Puritan vessels (it never was found out which) were closing on them fast, and there was a large, but thinly spread minefield around them.  One of the ships hailed them, demanding they hand over the info on the various races.  They knew of the PCs mission!  The group decided to try and steer through the minefield, relying on Ezekiel and Atrus to get the ship through, and still outrun the ships closing on them.  After a few rounds of chase, they were hit by a mine, but not severely.  Also, the ships fired off missles at them, which both missed....luckily.  These guys were packing nukes!  This reinforced the heroes' efforts to run like a scared rabbit.  They fired off a few missles at the pirate ships, all the while racing against them.  Normally, the ship types the pirates had (older models) would be equipped with fusion torch engines or some other slow PL6 crap.  However, these were very well refitted, having induction engines rivaling the PCs'.  In the end, the crew had Mar'eketh overload the ship's engines, as they had taken a bit of damage to the cargo compartment from a nuke.  Their ship took off and they managed to put enough distance between themselves and the enemies to get their warp engines back online and get the hell out of there!

They returned to Cestus, delivered the info, put their ship into the repair bays, and got paid $7000.  That and the recognition they received in various diplomatic circles (above and beyond what they received from discovering the dralasites) was payment enough.  They also saw on the news that the entire group of politicians on Aleer who had been charged were found innocent!  As they watched the news, the situation on Aleer seemed to be getting out of hand, as riots had started in many of the cities.  The aleerins opinion of their government seems to be starting to favor the Aleer for Aleerins.....
