The heroes finally managed to sell their story. Brett's contacts
gave them a good price (200,000 credits!) and soon the entire League would
know what exactly happened on Anduin. The heroes went shopping, and
did somemajor tooling up. They were also joined by Brett's limo driver/hover
car pilot, a new PC (a t'sa played by Gareth's brother Morgan, name unknown).
After a shopping spree, Natasha annouced she was leaving the group. After goodbyes were said, the heroes got down to business: their next job, or rather, finding one. That is when they received a call on an encoded League frequency. It was from League intellegence; once again, the League was pulling them into a mission.
It seemed that there was an informant in kar'soran space, an escaped gorene slave, who had info that could help the League in their war versus the Union of Klorr. Since the League needed all of its military vessels at home right now, and the heroes had a good track record for getting the job done, the PCs had been chosen to do the actual retrieval. The group was given rendezvous coordinates where they would meet with a League intellegence vessel, once they returned to League space, and transfer the informant. The heroes accepted, loaded up on food & supplies, and left for kar'soran space.
Their trip was uneventful: no ambushes or confrontations. Their destination was an outer kar'soran colony, a refueling point for kar'soran vessels making the trip to League space (kind of a stellar truck stop). The heroes arrived to find that there were several kybus vessels here, most likely searching for the slave. Although kar'soran territory was neutral ground, they were still going to be very cautious.
After doing a bit of searching, the heroes located a kar'soran who knew where the gorene was hiding. The kar'soran took the heroes to a run down motel, and introduced them to Malthus, the gorene. After a brief conversation, the group was alerted that a kybus patrol was nearby. The group slid out the back way and slowly made their way back to the Phoenix. They got the hell out of there and high-tailed it back to friendly territory.
Malthus explained that he had been stationed at a kybus shipyard, and knew the specifics on several kybus ship makes. He also knew of several lightly guarded supply depots that the League would surely be interested in. He and the heroes talked for a while, then settled in for a long trip home.
They reached the rendezvous coordinates and came out of warp. Sure enough, a League intellegence ship was there waiting for them. The ship hailed them and told the group they would be docking with the Phoenix. As the ship got close, its appearance changed. It was an alien vessel, the same type as had been encountered by the sun ships (see log 7). All of a sudden, three snake-men appeared on board the bridge of the Phoenix (again, see log 7). They immediately aimed their burrower guns at the heroes and open fire, luckily not doing too much. Kurknoon was the fastest to react, leaping at one and clawing the hell out of it (ever seen a pissed off weren with amazing MusclePlus?). Dalek and Goresh opened up on the others, knocking one out with accumulated wounds. The last one vanished. There was a call from engineering that Mar'eketh was under attack by two of the creatures. Also, Atrus noted that his flying A-eye had been shot by one of the creatures near the crew quarters. The newest member of the crew (Brett's driver) stayed on the bridge with Malthus to pilot the ship while Kurknoon headed down to engineering. Dalek and Goresh went to the crew quarters.
The Phoenix began firing at the alien vessel, doing a bit of damage here and there, but nothing too bad (due to crappy rolls). Dalek and Goresh managed to down another snake-man fairly easily, while Kurknoon entered engineering and was shot once (making him angrier). He ripped through another. The last snake-man vanished, only to reappear on the bridge, grab Malthus, and vanish again. With this, the alien ship sped away from the Phoenix and opened a wormhole, trying to escape. The crew unanimously voted to pursue, and took off into the portal. Inside, the alien vessel began firing, not at the Phoenix itself, but at the walls of the wormhole. Great gouts of energy surged up towards the Phoenix, all which were narrowly avoided by Ezekiel and the new t'sa. This continued for a while, while the heroes continued to fire at the alien vessel, in hopes of slowing it down. The only substantial wound the Phoenix suffered was a radiation grappler burrowing into the cargo bay and flooding the place with radiation. Finally, an amazing hit was rolled with the Phoenix's plasma cannon. Unfortunately, it hit the alien's power plant, causing it to explode, destroying the ship, and causing the wormhole to go crazy. Amazing piloting rolls were in abundance here as the two pilots managed to fly through the energy surges even with +5 penalties to their rolls. They realized they needed to exit the wormhole, as it was collapsing, so quickly turned around and tried to leave the way they came. As they reached the exit, the wormhole partially collapsed on their ship, damaging several sections, including the bridge, and more severely, the engines.
Atrus, who seemed a bit damaged, managed to tell the heroes that they were not where they started, but rather in deep space. They were at a totally different location in their galaxy, and that his best estimate placed them far away from the League. At max warp, it would take them non-stop nearly five years to return home.
But the heroes have more immediate problems.... their food supply has been eradiated and their engines damaged. The search for a class M world where they can land and repair begins....
