Kurknoon, Ezekiel and Goresh took part in this one... Morgan and
Dalek (Mike and Rhys) seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.
Brett took the heroes back to his place where they enjoyed a fine meal (and Brett's witty banter). Kurknoon took an instant dislike to him. At any rate, the heroes needed a connection to media, as they wanted to sell their story about the Instar coordinator sabotaging League defenses, and Brett told them he knew several people at GNN who would give them a fair price for their story. Brett asked only one thing in return. He had gotten a gig at a casino in the nearby Tyche system. The casino was just going to be opening and Brett was going to be one of the celebrity attractions. Brett wanted only transport to Tyche (as it would give the him more time to catch up with his friends). He promised them after he got there safely, he'd get in touch with his contacts and get the heroes into the loop.
After some debate (mostly Kurknoon) the group accepted. They left for Tyche two days later. One uneventful trip through warp later, they arrived at the Tyche system, and after docking, proceeded to escort Brett to the casino, The Round Table. The heroes went off around town in search of fun, etc. Brett just needed to get settled in. When they returned to The Round Table, they found a frenzied woman waiting outside. She had a fair bit of cyberware on her and a couple of guards were in the process of escorting her off of the casino grounds. Goresh stopped them and asked tospeak to the woman, who was shouting her love of Brett Maddox. After a brief conversation, it became clear that this woman was Brett's #1 fan.....
Goresh told her to come back when the casino opened and they would introduce her to Brett himself. She seemed happy and left without problem. As it was getting late, the heroes went to bed. Brett was kind enough to pay for their very luxurious lodgings at the not-yet-open Round Table. In the morning, the group went down to Brett's room to see how he was doing in regard to their news story. As they entered his room, the found bloodstains on the bed, obvious signs of a struggle, and no Brett. Kurknoon guarded the room while Ezekiel and Goresh alerted the casino managed (who seemed more concerned with booking another celebrity on short notice than Brett's safety). Ezekiel and Goresh then reviewed some video surveylance cameras footage. Goresh found an image and enhanced it... it was the cybered-super fan, flying up to Brett's window (using some sort of anti-grav harness), opening it, and a short while later, leaving with Brett (normally more security would've been posted to monitor the cameras, but again, not everything was complete at this casino yet).
After enough enhancements on the video, Goresh got Atrus to find a matching photo in the planetary computer (being a League-protocal computer, he had access to this). Soon, Atrus gives them a positive ID: Nancy Hosfield, an employee of a local courier company, arrested once for trying to purchase illegal cyberware. The heroes go to her place of business where they find that she hasn't been at work for a few days and that she would most likely be fired if she didn't show up by tomorrow. The heroes then went to her apartment. The authorities were already there, having found the same thing the heroes did (security vid). The apartment contained the standard trappings of a loony fan; an altar dedicated to Brett, as well as photos of Brett used to wallpaper one wall of her room. Finally, and most bizzare, several cardboard cutouts of Brett, from his various movie ads.
After some deliberation, the heroes decided she most likely couldn't have gotten offworld with him, so decided to look for secluded places she might have access to. The search led to one of the courier companies warehouses, at the Tyche starport. The group rented a van and headed over to the storage area. At the gates, starport security asked them for clearance. Goresh (who was with Kurknoon in the back of the van) quickly linked with his datapad and (on an amazing roll) managed to whip up a fake clearance form, showing that Ezekiel (who was driving) was a bonded courier.
The group went to the warehouse and slowly entered it. It was fairly large, had quite a bit in it, and was pitch black. As the group searched around through the crates, they heard a muffled scream from above. There was Brett, tied, gagged, and hanging from the ceiling. Kurknoon quickly climbed up the crates and chopped him down. As he was up there, he heard a woman scream. Kurknoon looked towards the scream only to be shot at. He quickly jumped down to avoid the bullets, then proceeded to hunt his prey, Brett's stalker Nancy. He charged towards her having made it half way when he was shot by her... not a big wound, but a poisonous one which shook even Kurknoon. Ezekiel quickly got Brett out of there while Goresh provided cover fire for Kurknoon. Although Kurknoon had very unlucky die rolls when it came to trying to hit Nancy, Goresh (with his new smart-linked laser pistol and enhance programs) was spot on accurate, and managed to down her in three shots.
Ezekiel contacted the authorities, who got down to the warehouse and took the wounded stalker into custody. Brett thanked the heroes, and promised to get in touch with his contacts ASAP, before anything else could happen to him.
