EUROFIGHTER EF2000 TYPHOON
For Microsoft Flight Simulator 98
Version 1.2

FS98 Conversion, Flight Dynamics, Textures, panel &
packaging by Dino Cattaneo (Italy).

Soundwork by Aaron R. Swindle (U.S.A.)

From a FSFS original by Juergen Timmer (Germany)

INTRODUCTION:

Just few days after the initial release Ive decided that the work was fine but could be a little better.Especially, while
the original panel was OK , I decided to make a more accurate replica of the Typhoon panel with a better visibility.
Moreover I wanted to integrate the EFASPAIN.ZIP patch in the main package, just to have a single well-working file.

WHATS NEW?

Here are the improvements I made in version 1.2:

- A TOTALLY NEW PANEL , more accurate and readable.
- A fictional CASA single seat prototype added (on request).

INSTALLATION:

Just unzip the EF200098.zip file (with the Use Directory Names option enabled) in your main FS98 directory and
the package should be intalled automatically. Then just choose one Eurofighter plane in your Aircraft menu (warning:
sometimes the menu shows wrong repaintsdont worry! Everything will be OK while in-game!). Remeber to check
the USE DIRECTORY NAMES option before you unzip this file, otherwise the plane WILL NOT WORK.

THE PLANE:

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a single-seat, twin-engine, delta wing / canard fighter plane designed for air-to-air combat
(but with full air-to-ground capability). It has been developed from British Aerospace (Great Britain - 33%), DASA
(Germany - 33%), Alenia Aerospace (Italy 21%) and CASA (Spain 13%).

The most remarkable features are:

-Excellent manouverability in air-combat (due a canard control surface system stabilized via computer controlled flight
controls).

-State-of-the-art avionics and weapon systems, including helmet mounted display and vocal input capability.

-Full compatibility with almost every NATO equipment.

At present, the prototypes have completed the filght and weapon test and the first production order has been signed. The
first plane will be fully operative in 2004. The Typhoon will be the backbone of NATO air interception in Europe from
2010 to 2035. The eurofighter consortium plans to buy 400 to 800 Typhoons some of wich will be probably sold to
foreign countries as
United Arabian Emirates.

The FS98 plane is a reworked version by a Jurgen Timmer original The FS98 conversion was ugly so Ive provided
the aircraft with new fligh dynamics (they have been made by modifying an F-15 file) The performance have been
reduced to simulate the payload effects and landing light were added (by the way excellent work,Jurgen! Its probably
the best 3D model Ive ever seen!).
Also I made new (and I hope better) textures that include the first three prototypes (GBR,GERmany and ITAly
textures) and a final export version as shown in summer 1998.
You may find few differences between these version and some real Ef2000 picture you have thats not my fault! The
fact is that the prototypes were painted differently at differet times so you might find pictures of the very same
prototype with totally differet colors! For example, actually most prototypes are painted in NATO Low Visibility grey
pattern.

The CASA prototype is a two seater and I had not any suitable tool to modify the 3d-model, but since Ive received
many requests, Ive added a fictional Spanish single seat prototype.

THE PANEL:

The has been designed to resemble the Typhoon cockpit as close as possible, however may gauges have been moved or
removed for better playability.

The green light-work below the HUD is fictional. That is the place of the TIALD aiming system (that I cannot simulate,
of course), so Ive decided to add those lights to avoid having a black empty box just in the centre of the screen

The keypad layouts are fictional, too. Ive copied them from DIDs EF2000 simulation.

For a better look-and-feel some compromises had to be done. The main problems are that the A/P gauge is unreadable
at 800X600 res , the HUD ladder is not aligned to the horizon, a vertical speed gauge is missing and moreover the
engine instruments are incomplete. What to say.You cant have everything.

You may argue that real EF2000 have 3 MFDs (as seen in DIDs excellent EF2000 sim).Well, in fact, ONCE they
HAD 3 MFDs! Present versions are equipped with just 2 MFD (as shown in this panel) as a result of a long man-to-
machine interface research. However, the cockpit layout may change in future and different prototypes still show
different cockpits !

A map mode is included just create a new map window and place it over the main MFD and use the MAP button just
below the HUD to switch between the Map and HSI modes.

Also, full working HUD and HUD-ILS mode included for 3Dfx cards only. If you dont have a 3Dfx card you should
only see heading, speed and altitude. Warning: Ive not tested the panel on a Voodoo2 card so it may not work on it!
Also, If you have a non-3dfx card the HUD mode wont work (even if your card is more powerful than a VooDoo!)!

THE SOUND:

Another excellent work by Aaron R. Swindle! He started from a DID EF2000 sampled file I sent him and produced an
excellent job, in my opinion!
It should be suitable for most next-generation fighters too!
For more informations check the Readmesnd.txt file by Aaron.

KNOWN PROBLEMS:

- Sometimes the Aircraft Menu shows wrong textues. I dont know what causes this problemhowever everything
seems to work fine while in-game so I think it should be a minor problemIf anyone can tell why please e-mail
me!

- The aircraft causes a AIRCRAFT INITIALIZATION ERROR if you use a situation created for the 1.0 version.
That is due to the different names Ive used for the Aircrafts. It should not be a major problem, I hope.

- The HUD ladder horizon is not aligned with the outside view horizon. That is because Ive decided for a better
visibility instead of a greater accuracy. If thats a problem for you, just resize the outside window!

- No additional VOR gaugeI had no place to put it!
