Standard Disclaimer: Paramount had to go and find an extra to play
Picard's wife in the Nexus, therefore, they are idiots. Although they
still own these characters, all I did, was make it right.

Authors note: The part in the beginning set off with 7 *'s is from the
novelization of the movie.

Instructions:

1. Watch "Star Trek; Generations" up until Dr. Tolian Soran destoys
Veridian III, then stop your tape.

2. Skip over the scene where Picard is in the Nexus with his family.
Read this story instead.

3. Resume normal viewing of your tape, beginning at the scene where
Picard goes to see Kirk in the Nexus.

In the gathering gloom, the wind picked up quickly and began to whip up
dust. The ribbon neared, illuminating the plateau with unearthly light,
filling the air with a strangely electrical charge, one that smelled of
a recent lightning strike, one that made the hair on the back of
Picard's neck rise. He instinctively backed away until his back pressed
against the scaffolding.

There was nowhere to run, nowhere to flee. He shut his eyes, grimacing
at the airborne sand that stung his face, at the piercing crackle of the
ribbon, at the light so dazzling, so colorful, it pained him despite his
closed eyelids.

And then the ribbon intensified beyond all human capacity to bear; he
cried out in agony at it's deafening roar, it's sheer brilliance, it's
blinding beauty.

And just as suddenly, there as no Picard, no Soran, no Veridian, so self
or other. Only darkness...

He opened his eyes and pulled his lips away form hers. He stared into
her deep blue eyes and saw nothing in them except for love.

She ran he fingers through his think brown hair and said, "Good morning,
Jeany."

"It is indeed," he muttered, pulling her closer to him. "I love you,
Bev. Even more than I did when I first married you."

She smiled and replied, "I love you, too." She leaned in to kiss him
again, but pulled back in pain just before her lips met his.

He looked at his wife with worry in his eyes, "Is everything all right,
Beverly?"

She smiled and put her hand on her bulging abdomen. "Yes, everything's
fine." Then, she reached up and grabbed his hand, putting it where her
hand just rested. "Baby Picard just woke up and wanted to say 'hello' to
it's daddy."

He looked down at his hand, felt something move in her stomach, and then
looked her straight in the eye. "Was that it?"

She laughed, "Yes, love. Your third child and the first time you've felt
one of them kick." She leaned over and kissed his nose.

He hugged her close again. "You *are* amazing, Beverly Picard... three
children in just three years of marriage."

She looked at him with eyes wide. "Me? My pregnancies are *your* doing,
Jean-Luc Picard! After a few weeks, you get board of the baby you have,
so you insist on making another one."

"Well, you don't seem to *mind* the process very much, do you?" He
kissed her, and was about to do it again when a load cry came from the
crib next to their bed.

"Your daughter wants to be fed, Papa." She smiled sweetly at him. "The
bottle's in the kitchen."

Jean-Luc got up, put his robe on, and headed out to the kitchen so his
daughter could be fed. Suddenly, he had a feeling that he did not belong
there. But how could that be? He had married Beverly Howard three years
before, when she was still in medical school, and they had two children
and another on the way. Everything was as it should be... or was it? Out
of the corner of his eye, he saw someone standing in his kitchen with
him. Her turned to face her and somehow knew her name. "Guinan?"

As soon as he had said her name, everything came back to him - the
_Enterprise_, Soran, Veridian III, even the Nexus He looked back to her.
"What's going on? Why am I here?"

She smiled at him. "This," she told him, "is the Nexus."

He looked around the kitchen and the small apartment, contemplating what
he had just heard. "I never had children with Beverly, or for the
matter, married her. But here, I have done those things." He drew in a
deep breath. "Guinan, what are you doing here? I thought you were on the
_Enterprise_."

She smiled again and shook her head. "I am, but I'm also here, as an
echo of the person you know... A part of herself that she left behind."

Realization dawned on him. "So, when the _Enterprise-B_ beamed you up
from the Lakul..."

"Jeany!" Beverly called to him. "Don't forget to check on Ryan!"

"I won't, love!" he called back. Jean-Luc smiled and muttered to
himself. "Beverly is *my* wife, and we have children..."

"Of course. That's what you wanted." Guinan told him. "And time has no
meaning here, so you can go back to your wedding, or go forward and see
your grandchildren."

"Jean-Luc!" Beverly called as she walked out of their bedroom, still
tying the robe around her stomach. "What's taking you so long out here,
love?" She obviously couldn't see Guinan, or she'd go into a jealous
rage.

Jean-Luc kissed her. "I'll be right there, Bev. I just want to heat up
Madison's bottle. Why don't you go get her?"

She smiled and kissed him. "Whatever you say, Jeany." Beverly turned and
walked back into the bedroom.

Jean-Luc quickly turned back to Guinan. "Can I leave the Nexus?"

"Where would you go?"

"I know exactly where I want to go." He said. "To the mountain top on
Veridian III. I have to stop Soran - but I need help." Jean-Luc thought
for a moment. "If you were to come back with me, together we could..."

"I can't leave," Guinan replied, "I'm there already, remember? But I bet
I know someone who *can* help you... and from his point of view, he just
get here too..."

really *bad* movie to begin with... except for when Kirk died! =) )>
