(By far, my favorite pedal manufacturer! A major reason is simply the durability of their products - most of the following were bought used because I trust BOSS pedals to keep on working. For example, I bought a new Heavy Metal in 1984, and the pedal works perfectly to this day. But what's up with their numbering system? For example, I don't think there was ever a BD-1 Blues Driver nor a CS-1, although I own both the CS-2 and CS-3. Oh, anyone ever see a DD-4? BOSS went straight to DD-5 from DD-3, didn't they?)

July 28/03 Update! I just got The BOSS BOOK, and on page 096, the question of numbering is answered! BOSS has reasons for their numbers! It's not a particularly simple answer, so I can't really summarize it here. Now the only question I have left is, what's up with the way they numbered the pages in The BOSS BOOK?

AC-2 Acoustic Simulator

BD-2 Blues Driver (to read my thoughts on this pedal, you only need to click here!)

BF-2 Flanger (to read the Musician's Friend take on this pedal, click here!) April 2002 News Flash! This pedal has been deleted to make way for the BF-3!!!

CH-1 SUPER Chorus

October 27/04 Update! I got this pedal 8 years ago in one of the all time great pawn shop steals - the CH-1, a BOSS PSA-120, and a high quality guitar cable, for a measly $25. I've been using it a lot lately because in addition to fine chorus sounds, pushing up the Rate control produces a nice vibrato type effect which is great for solos.

CS-2 Compression Sustainer

I've recently found the way to get a ton of sustain is to turn Attack all the way down, and then crank Sustain to 9:00. Make sure the pedal is at the front of your effects chain, and expect some noise if you've got distortion pedals following the CS-2.

CS-3 Compression Sustainer I got this pedal for a ridiculously low price a few years ago. March 31/04 Update! According to the BOSS BOOK, the CS-3 came about because the VCA chip used in the CS-2 was no longer available. I prefer to use the CS-2, although one would think the additional Tone control makes the CS-3 more versatile.

DD-3 Digital Delay (to read the Musician's Friend take on this pedal, click here!)

DF-2 SUPER Feedbacker & Distortion

DS-1 Distortion (to read the Musician's Friend take on this pedal, click here!)

DS-2 Turbo Distortion Purchased November 5, 2000

EH-2 Enhancer (my thoughts on this pedal are right here!)

FT-2 Dynamic Filter (to read what I have to say about this pedal, click here) July 28/03 Update! According to The BOSS BOOK, the FT-2 was only sold from October 1986 to December 1988. Keep that in mind while you read my little FT-2 tale.

FZ-2 HYPER Fuzz June 19/04 Update! The fact this pedal offers two different flavours of fuzz is secondary to its third option of serving as an incredible bass/treble/gain booster. That's right - there are separate controls for each. If you're looking to tweak your tone (or just give it a kick in the guts), this pedal is a pawn shop dream. By the way, ever try to price any treble boost pedals? Why did BOSS dump this pedal?

GE-7 Equalizer

HF-2 HiBand Flanger I bought this pink puppy August 9/03, and here's what I think of it.

HM-2 Heavy Metal July 28/03 Update! According to The BOSS BOOK, users of the HM-2 during the 1980s included ERIC CLAPTON and David Gilmour!

HR-2 Harmonist Purchased 02/29/00

LM-2 Limiter Yes, I finally succumbed and bought what might be the least desirable BOSS pedal of all time! I only make this claim because this poor pedal was the only one I ever saw being cleared out at EVERY guitar store I visited a few years ago. However, I couldn't resist an eBay deal, particularly since I thought it would prove helpful with home recording. It's rather good at keeping recording levels for bass and rhythm guitar constant. July 28/03 Update! According to The BOSS BOOK, the idea was to produce a pedal that could be used for guitar or bass. Guitarists didn't buy the pedal so the LM-2 was re-released as the LM-2b for bass.

MD-2 Mega Distortion (To read my two-part opinion of this pedal, click here!)

MT-2 Metal Zone November 13/04 Update!
I've owned this pedal for at least four years and only now do I write a review. To read it, click here!

NS-2 Noise Suppressor Purchased June 5, 2004. One of the very few BOSS pedals that I've bought new, because I couldn't find a good deal on a used one. As of November 13/04, I must say I'm pleased with this pedal - it's invaluable for home recording if you own a Strat and like to crank up the distortion!

OC-2 Octave

OS-2 OverDrive/Distortion (What do I think of this pedal? Click here to read the review I wrote for Harmony Central, followed by some second thoughts!)

PH-2 SUPER Phaser

November 26/04 Update! I've owned this pedal for 10 years, so maybe it's time I coaxed a cool tone or two from it. I was messing with it a few minutes ago, and turned off the RES control. This opened the door to some very cool sounds. The best one came with the MODE set at I, RATE turned full up, and the DEPTH only up to 9:00 (a quarter of the way up). Wow. With a SD-1 cranked up a bit in front, it sounded like a wonderfully watery Univibe sound. Who knew the Super Phaser was capable of such a sound?

PS-3 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay Purchased May 15, 2000. To read my review and see scans from the manual, click here!

PS-5 Super Shifter (I just got this pedal, so give me some time to put it through its paces, okay? So far, so good!)

PSM-5 Power Supply & Master Switch

PW-2 Power Driver Purchased November 24, 2000. I spent some quality time with this pedal back in November 2002. To read what transpired, all you need to do is Click here!July 28/03 Update! According to The BOSS BOOK, the PW-2 was the shortest-lived BOSS pedal of all, being in production for a scant 9 months!

RV-3 Digital Reverb/Delay Purchased June 5, 2004. One of two pedals purchased the same day - let's hear it for "0% financing"! It helped that the RV-3 was used and cost under a third of the new price. This pedal is simply full of cool reverb/delay options. I haven't had a lot of time to suss it out, but it seems that the key to make this pedal sound less "digital" is to keep the Balance control well over on the DIR side.

SD-1 SUPER OverDrive(The SD-1 + Fender tube amp = Tonal Joy!)

SYB-3 Bass Synthesizer (to read my review, Click here!)

XT-2 Xtortion (To read my comments, Click here! July 28/03 Update! According to The BOSS BOOK, the XT-2 was produced for a mere 1 year and 9 months (next only to the PW-2 for shortest-lived). If you ask me, BOSS gave up on this beauty too soon. I'm glad I got one!
