Avengers Forever

Well this is a page for
Captain Marvel not the Avengers. So some people might ask, why
bother to mention this insignificant 12 issue story about the
Avengers continuity? Why because it involved insight to Captain
Marvel's future! It signifies the first appearance of the
Rick/Genis combination we just met in Captain Marvel #1. And
reveals someday they will join the Avengers! But before I spoil
it for you on how Rick and Genis got merged -- let me set up
the plot -- Rick Jones was the target for Immortus to kill, but
Immortus failed. It seems the "Destiny Force" is alive
again within Rick Jones. And Immortus' "bosses" want it
dead so they can wipe out humanity so they never become evil
tyrants of galaxies. On a sidenote, the Supreme Intelligence and
a man named Libra seem to be part of the plot too. The supreme
Intelligence wants to study human emotions, life and such. And
Libra seems to want to help out the Avengers. 7 Avengers are
summoned, Hawkeye, Captain America, Captain Marvel (future),
Songbird (future), Yellow Jacket, Giant Man, Wasp and of course
Rick Jones is there.
for the most part, the Avengers battle Immortus,
and Kang in a giant time traveling Sphinx. They race to save
humanity from being wiped out of existance by the time keepers.
Immortus captures the Avengers and reveals to them the time
keepers and their plans. Before certain doom befalls upon the
universe,
Rick Jones, Kang and the Supreme
Intelligence appear in a dune buggy to
save the day.
Libra activated the Destiny Force in Rick Jones and the Avengers
so they can battle a horde of Avengers from timelines the
Avengers that turned bad. The time keepers continue on plan in
attempt to destroy the timelines with the evil Avengers
protecting them. The Avengers lose the Destiny Force again and
are trapped in a field of energy so that they can't move. Hoping
to disrupt the field, Captain Marvel pushes himself to slap the
nega-bands together and he breaks the field, with surprise to
everyone he transforms into a older Rick Jones. The battles goes
on, but obviously without the Destiny Force how can 7 Avengers
battle so many evil Avengers?
The Time Keepers also kill Immortus for trying to decieve them. To remove the problem of Kang, they zap him so he begins to age into Immortus. But Kang's will was just too strong. And he broke free ripping out of the Immortus' body he was being turned into.
You don't, so the present Rick, with the past Rick help out...and then an army of Avengers from timelines that didn't go bad appears to help fight the "Destiny War." They battle, and battle. Avengers fall, good and bad. Rick Jones(old) transforms back to Marvel to continue the fight. The Time Keepers are ready to fire the chrono-cannon to wipe out all realities other than the ones that the Time Keepers need to survive, and Rick Jones propelled by the Destiny Force flies/leaps in front of the Cannon and Takes the blast. He blows up the cannon and collapses to the ground. And his life force is fading. Meanwhile, Kang takes a bunch of guns, and shoots the Time Keepers.
Further more when the wreckage is cleared. It is discovered that Kang did not "Rip out" of Immortus' body, but there had been a time warp as a result of his will to remain Kang. He and Immortus had separated as far as time-streams goes. So there was now a seperate Immortus and Kang. Kang, feeling his future as Immortus is unwritten, vanishes knowing he can now continue as a conquerer. Immortus, however, decides to make different choices careful not to make the mistakes he did in his past life.
Back to Rick Jones, he is dying and his
life force is fading away. Captain Marvel walks over to the
Supreme Intelligence and asks him for a favor. He knows what he
must do, so the Supreme Intelligence uses his powers, so that
Captain Marvel can walk into Rick Jones' body and they can merge
together as one. Captain Marvel dissapears and Rick Jones wakes
up. Libra then sends all the Avengers back to their place in the
timeline for them to continue their futures. Some of them
remember what happened, some of them will think it was all a
dream. Others will remember it when the time is needed. But they
are all sent back. Rick Jones is sent back and discovers he is
wearing the
negabands. So he slams them together and
becomes Captain Marvel. But it is not the Genis from the future
that merged with him. Because of a temporal-flux, Rick is merged
with the young and in-experienced Genis from the present time.
And he experiences a new feeling, the change somehow must have
given him his "cosmic awareness"
Genis, as he flies away, yells "Oh that's what I'm feeling?
Well, no offence, Jones, but if being bonded to you is the price
of it -- Then the deal SUCKS"
And here we are in the present. At Captain Marvel #1. I would like to remind you this is just a summary of what happened in Avengers Forever to explain how Captain Marvel and Rick Jones are where they are right now.
