"A mighty ffiiine life, carryin' da banna through it all!!!...." sang the newsies. It was their morning ritual, to wake up and sing Carrying The Banner. Everybody who lived near the Newsboys Lodging House knew about it, and it hardly fazed them at all any more.
"Every morrnin' we goes where we wishes," sang the newsies, we's as free as-"
"STOP SINGING!" cried Mush. Every newsie turned and gaped at him. Nobody ever stopped the newsies from singing. Nobody.
"Is.... is there a problem Mush?" asked Blink.
"Yes," said Mush angrily, "Listen. Can you hear it? SOMEBOY ELSE IS SINGING!!!" This was a terrible thing indeed. Nobody but the newsies sang at Newsie Singing Hour!! Horrible! Unheard of!
"Ohh.... oh no...." murmurred the newsies. They walked in silence now, looking for whoever was intruding on their singing.
"They can't do this to us! We got no rights!" cried one unhappy voice.
"Yeah! They can't do this!" wailed another.
"They can do whatever they want, it's their stinkin' song." The newsies, headed by Jack, walked along the street, looking for the culprit.
"Must be somebody new in town, don't panic!" cried Davy. "Listen to me Racetrack....RACE!" he screamed, shaking him. Davy had a little problem with the attention thing.
"I ain't deaf!" screamed Race. Suddenly, all of the whining and complaining stopped. They saw some girls, singing on a corner.
"Ah, so THESE are the singers." growled Jack. Although it was customary to lift their hats at the sight of a girl, these girls were.... different. They were wearing close to nothing. All the newsies crowded together, and decided that Jack would have to confront them.
"Because you're so brave!" said Davy.
"Because you're so fine!" said Lynn. Jack modestly smiled at Lynn.
"Whooo-ooo....." went the newsies. Lynn smiled her biggest smile at Jack, and Jack turned away.
"Enough 'a dat...." he muttered as he bravely stepped up to the singers. "You and all your friends.... you think we're nuttin! We ain't nothin'!"
"NO!" agreed the newsies. But the girls turned to each other and giggled. "We can do whateva' we want. That's the meaning of-" she turned to the others, "Gihl Powa!!" The girls giggled.
"Why are you here?" demanded Jack.
"We ah hea to Spice up yoa' life. We ah the Spice Girls. I'm Baby Spice."
"And I'm Sporty Spice."
"And I'm-"
"I DON'T CARE!" cried Davy unexpectedly. "You... you just go away!"
The Spice Girls laughed, and talked for a moment. "Now lets see... I want this one!" squealed a brown haired Spice as she grabbed Jack's arm.
"NO!" cried Lynn, "HE'S MINE!"
"Whooo-ooo...." the newsies whooed.
"And I get this one!" cried Sporty as she grabbed Blink. "Oh take that off!" she screeched as she yanked off his eye patch. Every newsie gasped. They prepared for the worse. But to their great surprise, there was an eye just like the other one under his eye patch.
"Blii-iink!!!" whined Crutchy, "I thought your eye wasn't there!" Blink blushed furiously.
