For Everything - By Angela

Part 8

The screen door banged shut behind me. I looked at if, almost questioning it. Everything felt foggy and unreal, as if I were in a dream.

"Angela? Angela?" I shook myself, blinking.

"Yes." My brother looked at me concerned.

"Are you ok?" he asked doubtfully.

I looked at him, vaguely amused. "What do you think?" Johnny felt my forehead. He then leaned closer to my face and whispered, "Angela, have you been drinking?" With that comment I burst out laughing. "Pshhh. I might as well have been. Am I drunk? Ha ha, that's pretty good."

Johnny was really worried now. He was looking at me as if I had really lost it. "What is is? Do I have horns growing out of my head?" I started laughing uncontrollably. Suddenly the room began spinning and everything went black.

I opened my eyes. My father, Johnny, James the butler, Jack, and some strange man were hovering over me. I parted my lips to speak but my mouth was bone dry. "Someone get her some water." the strange man ordered. I was guessing he was a doctor.

Someone handed me some water. I swallowed some. "What happened?" I managed to croak out. "You fainted." everyone answered.

I frowned. "Oh." I tried to sit up but the doctor wouldn't let me. He started examining me. "I'm fine." I argued.

"We'll see." he responded and continued to check me over. When he finished he stood up and turned to my dad. "She's fine. Just let her get some rest and she should be fine."

"See?" I said. The doctor ignored me. I sunk back down in bed, feeling stupid.

The crowd began to disapate, leaving me to sleep. I saw Jack turning to leave. "Jack." he turned, and smiled. "Feelin' betta'?" he asked, returning to my bedside.

"Yeah. I just, ummm," I flicked my eyes around the room, trying to figure out how to say this, "How did you get here?"

Jack shrugged. "I jus' came ta see ya."

"But-" I cut myself off.

"What?" Jack asked.

"It's just so far for you to go..." I mumbled.

"So?" he searched my face, his eyes sparkling.

"It don't matta'. I just wanted ta see ya. Hey, I hafta go. I'll see ya, ok?"

"Ok." I said shocked as he gave me a peck on the cheek and walked out the door.

Jack, he cared so much. It kind of scared me. I hadn't expected it to end up like this. I had never thought I would be the one who was scared. I could tell that something tremendous had happened this afternoon. Jack was somehow different. The way he walked, the way he looked at me, everything about him was different. It was like he had a purpose now. And that purpose was me. I was kind of frightened that maybe I wouldn't be able to live up to his expectations or something.
