I sat in the chair across from the sofa, watching Jack sleep. It was really rather enjoyable, to tell you the trulth. He rolled over onto his back. "Mmmmmpphhh." he mumbled. He stretched and his eyes fluttered open. He rolled over and smiled groggily at me. Then his eyes widened and he sat up. "What time iz it?"
I glanced at the clock on the wall. "12:15."
His jaw dropped. "I-I, I gotta go sell me papes!" he cried, jumping to his feet.
"Don't worry about it." I said, pushing two dollars into his hand.
Jack looked down at it, surprised. "Aww, I can't take dis." he said, shaking his head.
"No." I said forcefully. "Take it."
"I-I can't." I shook my head. I wasn't caving it. He needed that money way more than I ever would. "You need a break. Take the money." I said pointedly. I locked eyes with him and stared at him hard. He knew I wasn't going to back down.
"Thanks, Angie. Thanks. For...for everything." Jack pocketed the money and walked out the door.
