Submissives on Gor?

     A conversation with a "freewoman" last week got me to thinking about something. I was sitting, as I sometimes do, in the Silk&Steel discussion channel on Austnet, when in wandered what appeared to be a freewoman. The reason I use the word "appeared" is that she had a capped nickname. She was seeking another, but since he was not about the place at the time, spoke to me of her problem.

     She described herself as a "submissive" with an interest in Gor. To further her plight, she told me that she really had no interest in serving anyone but her own master, so she did not feel right being a slave. Right off the bat I thought "It's too bad 100% of the "submissives" here playing at being slaves do not see it the same way".

     Now, being one to appreciate honesty from a person, I took the time to discuss this issue further with the woman. She asked me about my opinion of freewomen, and how they should act, and since I do at times have an opinion, I decided to give her one, free of charge! As I voiced my opinion on freewomen to her, something began to dawn. I described proper freewomen in the manner that I see them: As freewomen, they are still "women". As women, they will still remember their place among men. They will at all times present themselves as the gracefully robed and veiled creatures that they are. They will never seek to cause a problem with freemen. (at least not without a handful of male escorts) Now I think what this submissive was truly looking for was how a freewoman might interact with her free companion: As a freewoman, living in a man's house, with a man, she can feel free to serve him, out of the public's eye, in the manner of a freewoman; with grace and dignity. Also, what occurs in their quarters is up to them, but she must always remember that at his whim, she may find herself stripped, and tied to the slave ring at the foot of his couch. She is, after all, still a woman among men.

     What does this have to do with anything? Well, from the description provided of freewomen (I am sure I would hear many arguments against my own description) we might determine that a freewomen is indeed, or at lest could be, a "submissive" woman. As we continued to discuss the issue, an idea began to take shape...

     I began to think of the great many women here, who "act" like slaves in the public view, (most of the time, depending on the channel they are in) but once "offended" become foul mouthed little subbie brats with ugly attitudes. I have seen "slaves" (term used loosely) attack freemen, myself included, when they have become offended at being treated like slaves! Perhaps they took offense at being called a wench, or a slut. Maybe they didn't like it when a man actually reached out and touched those 'large, firm breasts' that she presented to him. Or it could simply be that the man took great offense when she "looked at him" for something he may have said, and he actually said something about it. Most of the time, it seems these subbies will message the "offensive man", and seek to chew him a new asshole, starting with "You are no Master!", and when she starts to discover it is a losing battle, reverts to comments about the size of his dick. This makes me think that to these women, men who allow them to act the way they do "obviously" are Masters in their eyes, with larger dicks than the rest of us "terrible fellows". Now I would think most "Masters" would seek to have some semblance of control over their "slaves". Personally, I do not allow, in the slightest, that any of my own slaves speak in disrespectful fashion to any person with a capped nick. I do not care that they do not "like" the person they might be speaking to, but I DO care that they remember their place at all times. They are, after all, only slaves.

     Continuing on this thread, I wonder how men can let their women get away with such crap, under the guise of being slaves and masters. Perhaps they fear that if they don't let their women flap their lips in such a manner, they will simply beg release, (yeah right) and find another man they can top from the bottom. *shrugs* I have an idea: Why not "free" your "slaves", and let them become freewomen, and you become their free companion. I think that many here would be a tad more tolerant of a freewoman speaking her mind, than they are a "slave" doing so. I recall once seeing a question from a girl "Is there any place on Gor for a submissive, or is it only for slaves?". Now I have the answer: The place for submissives on Gor, is in the form of freewomen. This leads me to another conclusion on a point I have always silently wondered about. I have read in a few of the Gor books, the reference to the ratio of freewomen to slaves; in most cities on Gor, it is about 40 freewomen to 1 slave. Now that I have thought about it, and considering the subject of this editorial, I think that the same ratio applies here, on IRC Gor. There ARE at least 40 freewomen to every 1 slave, the reason we do not see them, is that MOST of them are running around in the guise of slaves.

     In closing, I say to you: Men, learn to control those girls that wear your collar. It is true that a slave cannot dishonor a man, but his slave's actions can speak volumes about him, thus he dishonors himself through his lack of control. If you cannot control her, release her so she can go top someone else, and save some face. Slaves, remember your place among men at all times, and trust that you truly do not know who is sitting on the other end of that private message you are sending. In my opinion, it is best to err on the side of caution.
