It's a simple request, really. Such a normal thought to have about the woman you love. Of course, our lives are anything but normal. I think that's why I think about it so much. The image of us dancing has been with me for quite some time now. I keep it tucked away the same way I keep my wallet tucked in the back pocket of my pants. It's always there, yet I only take it out when I need it. It's so comforting for me, knowing that I can pull out this image on those days when my life seems like nothing but chaos. Of course, now that I think about it, that seems to be pretty much every day. The place is always different. Sometimes we're in a crowded nightclub. Sometimes we're in a majestic ballroom, and sometimes we're simply doing an impromptu dance in the office. I've pictured us slow dancing, waltzing, doing the tango, and even doing some disco dancing, but no matter where my mind imagines us, one thing always stays the same. Our dance always ends with a kiss. Tonight as I sleep, I find myself swept up in a dream in which the image of us dancing is clearer than it's ever been. We are in my apartment, talking, with soft music playing in the background. You look so relaxed sitting on my couch, and I'm finding it difficult to concentrate on what you're saying. I keep looking at your lips as you talk and wondering what they would feel like next to mine. The streetlight outside is shining through my window, casting shadows upon your hair, and your eyes are intensely focused on me. I try to hide the fact that I'm looking at your lips, but I have a feeling you know exactly what I'm doing. You look so beautiful sitting there, and I know that it's time. If I don't take this chance now, I never will. I stand up, hold out my hand, and whisper, "Dance with me, Scully." You look at me for what seems like an eternity. My heart is pounding so loudly in my chest, it's overpowering all my senses. Just when I think I can't wait a second longer for your response, you stand. You nod your head, take my hand, and slowly press your entire body into mine without saying a word. Your head rests against my chest, and I feel my heart beating even faster. Your hips gently brush up against my thighs, and I feel a tickling sensation as you move your fingers along my lower back. I'm afraid to move, for fear of breaking the spell we seem to be under. Although words go unspoken, everything between us is being said in this one moment. After a long pause, we start swaying in rhythm with the music. We dance for what seems like hours. You feel so good next to me, so soft, so warm. I don't want to let you go, but the music has stopped. Our silent dance is over. I take a step back, but you don't. You simply smile at me, and casually move your hands from my back to my face. I am absolutely mesmerized by you and before I realize it, my hands are stroking your cheeks. I want to kiss you, and I can see in your eyes that you want me to. I slowly lean forward and close my eyes. Your breath caresses my face, causing a rush of excitement to wash over me. Our lips barely touch, then press together in an exquisite kiss. I pull you closer, wanting nothing more than to lose myself completely in you. I want you so much, Scully. I've wanted you for so... "Mulder, it's me. Are you in there?" I'm suddenly startled out of my dream by the sound of your voice at my door. I immediately sit up and try to get my bearings. I feel warm and a little out of breath. I can tell my face is flushed, and I'm not sure I want you to see me like this. I take a couple of deep breaths and rub my eyes a few times, still trying to get myself together. "Yeah, I'm here, Scully. Just a minute." I move towards the door, but before I can get there, you walk in, with my key in your hand. "What took you so long, Mulder? Are you okay?" You sound a little concerned. Of course, I can't tell you that I was right in the middle of the most incredible dream of my life, so I simply say, "I'm okay, Scully. I was just taking a nap on the couch. Why are you here? Is everything alright?" Now it's my turn to be concerned. "I'm fine, Mulder. It's just that when we left the office earlier, I couldn't stop thinking about this case. I think I finally figured out what this Thompson guy is gonna do next. I was going over the forensics reports again tonight, and I found something we missed earlier. I think if we go back to the office tonight and start..." "Dance with me, Scully," I blurt out. The stunned look on your face is priceless. With four simple words, I have managed to catch you completely off guard. After quickly regaining your composure, you raise your eyebrow, and suspiciously ask, "What did you say, Mulder?" "You heard me, Scully. I want you to dance with me." My eyes lock onto you as you move over to the couch and sit down. I can tell that you're pondering what I've suggested, but aren't quite sure how to respond just yet. You look up at me, searching my face for some kind of answer. Trusting what you see in my eyes, you finally stand up, and quietly say, "Okay." I can't stop smiling as you take my hand and press your body into mine without saying a word. You rest your head against my chest and place your hands on my lower back in just the right spot. We start to dance, and it's just like I've imagined us. Only this time, it's even better. ~end~ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I did not write this.
