And the fans saw that this was bad, and did it anyway! ;-) Matter of Honor by Kelly Moreland I'm a man of my word, and I'll keep it, no matter how much it kills me. From the time I woke up this morning, I've been dreading this. Today is the day. Today I swallow the bitter pill of my silence once again. I could have stopped this a long time ago; I should have stopped it. But when all is said and done, I'm a coward. Five more minutes, and I'll watch Scully walk down the isle and marry another man. It should be me, and my heart is breaking because it's not. Over the last seven years, I've fallen in love with this tiny red-head. She's smart, beautiful, and possesses a strength that I'm in awe of. I've saved her life, and she's saved mine. I've watched her fight against the odds, and come out on top. She's amazing. I love her, but I've always been to craven to say a word. Even after that kiss. That kiss still haunts my dreams. It always will. I hate this damn tux. The only comfort I get is the fact that the groom looks even more uncomfortable than I do, but not by much. I've dreamed about walking Scully down the isle. I just never thought it would be to give her away. I look at him again. He's nervous, fidgeting around with his tie, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Half of me hates him, and half of me pities the anguish he's going through. I'm sure he'll take care of her. I'm sure that he loves her. I'm sure I'd take his place in the blink of an eye, if I only could. I walk over to him, one last thing to be said, as the music starts. "If you ever treat her with anything less than what she deserves, I'll break you in half. Is that clear?" I speak quietly, but the expression on my face carries the conviction of my words. "Sir, you don't have to worry. I love her. I will always love her." I nod, and walk into the church, leaving him alone. "But I think you will too." Mulder says softly, watching Skinner disappear through the door. Fini~
