I never asked to be her last knight,
the only one left to defend a saint
from the pagan mob outside.
I never asked to be the beliver,
the only man left to carry your torch
and watch it burn inside her eyes.
But here I am.

I never signed up for your battle,
to climb down from my ivory tower
for the dirt and blood of the ground.
I never volunteered to lead the cahge
to gallop through the mountains of Hades
and mow the demon armies down.
But here I am.

        So tell me what to do
        when no one believes you.
        Tell me what to do when she cries.
        Give me the words to say
        when faith deserts you.
        And does she always hide her pain
        behind her eyes?
        Tell me, hero, what do you do?

I never asked to be her shelther,
the only wall left to protect her soul
from the hurricane of fate.
I never asked to be the fearless leader,
the one who walked her over broken glass
and yet tried to keep her safe.
But here I am.

I never signed up as their savior,
to wear the thorns and carry the cross
and save their children from the lies.
I never tried to be the heretic,
to challenge the whited sepulchres
and burn at their stake until I die.
But here I am.

        So tell me what to do
        when they try to break you.
        Tell me what to do when she bleeds.
        Give me the secret of strength
        when your soul fails you.
        And does she always hide her scars
        and stifle her screams?
        Tell me, hero, what do you do?

I never asked for this journey,
but I will still plunge the floor of any sea
until I had found the hidden depth.
I will offer them my flesh in place of her,
and if they strip me to the bones
my skeleton will fight until the death.
Here I am.

        But tell me, hero, what to do
        when she asks if you're coming back?
        Tell me, when I promise her you are,
        did i just lie?
