Uhura (Nichelle Nichols)

Communications officer aboard the Starship Enterprise under the command of James T. Kirk ("The Corbomite Maneuver" TOS). Born in 2239, her name derived from the Swahili word for "Freedom" ("Is There No Truth In Beauty" TOS). A highly skilled technician, Uhura was also a talented musician, and enjoyed serenading her fellow crew members with song ("Charlie X" TOS, "The Conscience of the King" TOS, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier). Her memory was wiped clean in 2267 by the errant space probe Nomad, requiring her to be re-educated ("The Changeling" TOS).
