Chapel, Christine (Majel Barett)
Nurse aboard the Starship Enterprise under Chief Medical Officer Leonard
McCoy. Chapel gave up a promising career in bioresearch to sign aboard a
starship in the hopes of finding her lost fiancee, Dr. Roger Korby. Chapel
found Korby on planet Exo III in 2266, but learned he had transferred his
consciousness into an android body. Korby was destroyed by another android
on that planet ("What Are Little Girls Made Of" TOS). Chapel admitted she
was in love with Mr. Spock while under the influence of the PSI 2000 virus,
although Spock did his best to ignore this ("The Naked Time" TOS).
Chapel's first appearance was in "The Naked Time" (TOS). Majel Barett,
real life wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, also played Number
One, the second in command of the Enterprise in "The Cage" (TOS), as well
as the recurring character Lwaxanna Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Barett lent her voice to the computer of both the original Enterprise and
the Enterprise-D, as well as to the Companion "Metamorphosis" (TOS), the
Beta 5 computer "Assignment Earth (TOS), and M'Ress in the animated Star
Trek. A nurse aboard the Enterprise-D in "Transfigurations" (TNG) was referred
to in the script as Nurse Temple (played by Patti Tippo), sort of a homage
to Nurse Chapel.
