HALL OF ENERGY WEAPONS
Type I Disruptor (Phase Disruptor)
The Phase Disruptor Type I  was one of the first hand energy weapons to see fleet wide use in the Empire.  Unlike its Federation counterparts, its beam was not in the visible spectrum.  The Type I disruptor was phased out of service sometime in the early 2270's.

Type IA Disruptor (with belt/sash clip)
The Type IA Disruptor was one of the "in between" models that never saw any real active service.  It was originally built and commissioned to replace the Type I, but by the time it was introduced in 2270 the Type II  Disruptor had already been approved for manufacture and fleet wide distribution.

*The weapon prop pictured above had been made for the "Star Trek II" series that was to have aired in the 70's.  But due to the decision to go with The Motion Picture, it was mothballed.  It would have its one TV appearance in an episode of "Mork And Mindy".*

 Type II Disruptor------------------------
The Type II Disruptor was brought into the fleet around 2270.  It was a big departure from previous designs in the fact that it had a barrel configuration instead of an open emitter.  While having double the range and destructive power of the Type I,  it also had a long recharge time between shots.  The barrel  also had a disturbing tendency to overheat very quickly in firefights.  Though phased out in the 2280's in favor of the smaller and faster Type III, it would regain a new life in the Imperial Marines in the 2290's in the form of the Type V "Death Sting".  Type III Disruptor--------------------------
The Type III Disruptor was introduced to the Empire around 2280.  It would reach fleet wide distribution level by 2281, and become one of the most popular sidearms in the Empire.  Its durability, reliability and deadly accuracy would make it the hand weapon of choice throughout the 2280's before it was phased out in favor of the Type VI Disruptor.

MkI Disruptor Rifle
A variant of the Type III, the Type IIIA, would include mountings for a rifle stock, creating the first known "Disruptor Rifle".  The stock not only provided an extra power pack reserve but also included an amplifier matrix that would double the range and firepower of a Type IIIA Disruptor pistol. The Disruptor Rifle, though mass produced and preferred by officers on the Birds Of Prey of the Empire, would be phased out by the dawn of the 24th Century in favor of the "Death Sting" Heavy Disruptor Pistol and the Type VI.   Old legends die hard though, for  mercenaries and freedom fighters still are seen carrying surplus MkI Disruptor Rifles as recently as 2375.

Type IV Disruptor
Several prototypes were built, but the Type IV would never see a military contract.  An instability in the power system design of the Type IV Disruptor led to frequent overloads, and by the time the source of the problem was discovered, the Type V  "Death Sting" and Type VI Disruptor were being introduced into the fleet.

Type V Disruptor "Death Sting"
Originally to be designated the Type IIA, it was later decided to go ahead and dub it the Type V.  The Type V Disruptor or "Death Sting"  as the Imperial Marines would come to call it was on the outside almost identical to the Type II.  This was due to the fact that when the Type II was recalled from service, a large number of them were still collecting dust in munitions dumps all over Q'onos.  Rather than sell them , the surplus Type II's were shipped back to the factories and refitted with new power packs and more heat resistant barrels.  The "Death Sting" would serve as the sidearm for the Imperial Marines til around 2297.

Type VI Disruptor ---------------------------
The Type VI Disruptor began being issued in the early 2290's.  It would prove to be the best energy weapon to ever be produced by the Empire and with little modifications or upgrades it is still in fleetwide use as of 2376.  A smaller yet more powerful energizer pack gave it a higher total shot capacity,  more destructive firepower, and enabled the designer to give the weapon a sleeker profile.  The latter of these allowed for a better sighting system, making it the preferred weapon for any Klingon sharpshooter.

  Type VII Disruptor
The Type VII Disruptor began full scale production in the mid to late 2360's.  It has an energizer pack with twice the capabilities of the Type VI, and a heavy duty amplifier array in the emitter section(hence its great size).  The Type VII despite its improvements clearly sacrificed accuracy for firepower, which is why it is now mainly in service with the Imperial Marines, while the Type VI remains popular with Naval Officers.
