The following is a transcription taken from an interview on 9/24/99 at 2:21AM at David's residence.

So. Mr. Jenkins ... I'm glad we could talk for a few minutes.

David, please. My dad is "Mr. Jenkins." Do you need anything? Gin and Tonic? Loch Dhu? Cigarette?

(laughs) No Thanks. Let's get down to it.

Ok. Shoot.

Well, first of all I've noticed that your website hasn't been very active these last few months ... First of all .. Why is that, and secondly what sparked the renewed interest?

Ah. Well, that's an easy one. I've been really busy with my theater, The Jobsite, since I moved back to Tampa. I was also looking for a job I could tolerate during the day as well, so that didn't leave for too much webtime. I became reinterested in updating while i was up all night researching stuff for the show I'm directing right now The History of the Devil, and noticed just how ugly and outdated my page had become. I had also just looked at a friend's page in San Francisco who does a lot of work for Jobsite, and decided it was time. I sort of used her page as a starting block and played with my impression of it.

Great. So, how did the job search pan out?

Pretty good. I just got hired at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in the Marketing department. I think it's a good move for me, I've been in the field for 4 years now, and we (Jobsite) work out of there a lot ... so yeah ... I'm happy.

Any other big news, besides the company?

Not right now, but I'll keep you posted. Most everything right now involves Jobsite in ne way or another, I can't go on enough about how well we're doing.

For the people who may not know you, tell us a little about yourself.

Oh Jesus ... umm .. heh .. this is kinda silly ... I mean aside from the fact that I'm pretending to be interviewed and answering my own damn questions....

...you're an actor ... suspend your disbelief...

Ok ... fine ..lessee ... I was born in Jacksonville, FL, where I went to Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and generally wrouight havoc with a tight-knit group of friends, that like any tight-knit group of friends fell apart once we all finished school. I suppose we were more a social order than anything, going to clubs like Einstein A Go Go, Milk Bar and Club 5, playing in the Rocky Horror Cast, etc. Then I went to USF and got my BA in Performance, which is by the way, where the seeds of Jobsite were sown amongst my friends here. Then went on to UF for my Masters, where I also worked with the Hippodrome and Acrosstown Repertory Theater. And ... umm .. last August I moved back here, and basically doing Jobsite. Although I did do a kick-ass rock musical Whirligig at the Center as well, the only non-Jobsite show I've done so far ....

Wow .. so it dounds like the theater and school and pretty much dominated your life for the past 10 years.

True. And roommates and girlfriends. I wish I would have had fewer of the previous to tell you the truth ... but I don't regret anything ...I've definately learned alot about people between having to live with people and dating ...

You sound bitter.

ME? (snicker) Well, I sound that way often. The Porcupine's Dillemma. Don't get me wrong, it's not all bad. Sometimes it's good, and somethimes it just is ...

Porcupine's Dillemma? Is that a Neon Genesis Evangelion reference?

Heh ... sure is. Thanks to my friend Lisa, I've become an addict. Not like I needed another anime obsession, I'm still collecting Ranma 1/2 episodes, and that's enough to keep me broke for at least another year. I tend to not do anything half-assed. Something I've noticed about myself. I tend to do that with bands, artists, writers, even people. I run hot or cold and there's not much tepid ground.

So, you consider yourself an extremist?

I didn't say that, I just tend to be opinionated. About most everything. And the things I'm not opinionated about, I'm REALLY not opinionated about. So even that is hot and cold.

Hmm ... interesting ... mind if I fire off a few questions in that regard? Of course you don't ... I'll save you the bother of having to change font color again for "of course not." Political Affiliation?

Extremely Liberal Republican. In short I like people taken care of, cigarettes, equality, separation of church and state, the complete destruction and subsequent rebuilding of our public education system, guns, meat, small government, state's rights, the death penalty, and being able to live however you like as long as it doesn't infringe on someone else's rights. Thorough enough? Good.

Paper or plastic?

Plastic.

Do you believe in God?

Sure, but it's not a he or a she, and definately doesn't look liek George Burns or Zeus on a mountain. Well, maybe s/he does to some people. I suppose I'm best described as a Zen Tao Polytheis Discordian. Does that make sense? I dunno .. philosophy seems a much stronger controller of a person's life than a set of commandments or kosher laws or something. I think the divine can manifest itself in any way, but I think the goal should be self-enlightenment and following the path of your own calling. We need to claim more responsibility as individuals and as cutlures instead of pinning responsibility on God(s) or Dionne Warwick or whatever.

Do you believe in love?

Yes. Do I have faith in it? That's another matter altogether...

What's your birthday?

March 8, 1974. Jesus, I'm getting old. The older I get actually, the less faith I have in love, but the more hope I have for it. I'm a pisces. I'm fairly ruled though by the aries and capricorn in my houses tho. I'm often mistaken for a leo, but I just think that's the hair ...

What's your favorite cd right now?

Leonard Cohen, More Best Of. Been playing the hell out of it. I wish Nick Cave would release another album ... I've also been listening to a lot of Robert Johnson for the show.

Movie?

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I want Jobsite to do a stage version real real bad coz I wanna flail in a tub shrieking "WHITE RABBIT! WHITE RABBIT!" Tee hee.

Book?

The Thief of Always. Definately. Clive is the fucking man ... I can't wait for the movie. Can we take a break for a while .. my fingers hurt, I am typing for two ya know ...

Ok. We'll pick it back up another day.

Cool.
