Tarma waves hello! Opa smiles back at Tarma. "Hello there...have you found yourself a good seat yet?" Tarma says "Yes, Master. I'm back here next to Sachi." Sachi happily nods. Opa cranes her neck to spot Sachi. "So you are." She smiles at both of them. Jekar nods politely, if a bit belatedly, to the Master. "Klah?" He asks, gesturing. Tarma smiles back. Opa sits down at the Craftmaster's Table. Duvetyne sits down at one of the Journeyranker Tables. Sachi sits down at one of the Apprentice Tables. Opa shuffles her seat around to get comfortable. "Oh, yes, thank you, Jekar." Fiona ambles in through the archway from the teaching wing. Tarma wonders if she should move to sit with Sachi again, at the apprentices table. Maybe she should wait? Jorai sits down at one of the Journeyranker Tables. Fiona sits down at one of the Journeyranker Tables. Fiona slips in quietly and finds her seat. Jekar deftly fills a mug with the steaming brew, handing it over to Opa, then, hefting the stone pitcher, looks around for any other takers. Fiona wrinkles her nose at the smells coming from the kitchen, then takes a deep breath and waves to get Jekar's attention. [Opa gets booted] Varina sits down at the Craftmaster's Table. Fiona returns Jekar's smile and whispers thanks before taking a sip. Tarma stifles a giggle. Opa smiles as Varina sits down next to her. "I think it's yellowtail I'm smelling from the kitchen. I think we're in for a good meal." Varina pushes her hair out of her eyes, and sniffs expirimentally. "Indeed... the kitchen's been busy today, I noticed." Fiona shudders at Master Opa's words, then leans over to whisper. She mutters to Jekar, "... you... there's... than fish... My... just isn't... to... today." Sachi grins, "And I'm starved! I love fish." Jekar stations himself just behind Fiona's chair, alert for any beckon. He mumbles, so that perhaps only a few Journeymen could hear, "Why they schedule dinners and meetings for midnight, I'll never know..." He trails off and then nods slightly to Fiona. "But of course." Opa rubs her hands together eagerly. "And a good thing, too. I missed lunch." She grins as the drudges start bringing out the yellowtail and fried cheese. Tarma watches all, bright eyed. Alcyone sits up a bit straighter in her seat, watching the food approach. Opa waggles a hand towards the rest of the chamber. "Well, eat up everyone, no sense in letting it get cold." Jekar waits until most of the other drudges have brought out the main dish before he himself ducks into the kitchen, returning in several moments with a platter that he sets before Fiona. "Wherry stew, carved herdbeast, or spiced meatrolls, take your pick. With greens an' tubers." Duvetyne hears the ok from Opa and dives in. Taking some fried triangles of cheese from a pot, Johann lets the oil drain from them before handing them to Duvetyne. He admonishes Duvetyne to be careful because they are hot. Johann nods to Duvetyne and directs one of the serving drudges to pour some wine from one of the wine casks. The drudge hands Duvetyne a glass of Benden red. Tarma dishes hers up from the platters on the table, and east slowly, not wanting to miss anything. Varina chuckles, commenting, "I've never known any of these folks to let it go cold." She heaps the tubers on her plate, commenting, "Well, I didn't miss lunch, but I certainly am starved." Fiona takes a deep breath as the other food is passed around her, then beems a smile at Jekar, "Thanks so much, dear." She takes a tentative bite of greens, looking a little green herself. Opa grins. "Yes, but we've some new apprentices who don't know the drill yet - I wouldn't want them to miss out on the choice pickings just because they're trying to be polite." She passes a cloth-lined basket over to Varina. "Cheese?" Alcyone scoops some of the yellowtail concoction onto her plate, looks at it thoughtfully, then adds another large spoonful before passing off the server. Jekar returns Fiona's smile, though a little worriedly, and looks about to put a question to the journeywoman, but is called away to refill the mugs of several loud-mouthed apprentices. Jorai just plays idly with the food on her plate, occasionally looking around the table, then to the door, then back to her plate. Duvetyne bites into a cheese triangle and yelps as she fries her tongue. Varina smiles, "Thanks," andtakes a few more than she should out of the cheese basket and returns it to the server. Frowning to Opa, she quietly admits, "I don't recognize every body here tonight." Sachi serves her own food up and happily dives in. Jekar quickly looks up toward the sudden sound, recognizes the problem, and helpfully moves to pour a glass of chilled water for Duvetyne. Weavers> Jorai goes off for her own dinner for a minute and to see what the crowds are cheering so lustily at! Duvetyne downs her glass of Benden Red and winks at Jekar. ;) Tarma is thinking what pretty colors Fiona is wearing, and how they would look really good in a sunset in a tapestry and....oh....maybe she'd better eat and think about it later. Opa nods, putting her head close to Varina and speaking just as quietly as she starts cutting up her fish. "I've been receiving a number of requests lately. Many new faces to remember." Jekar arches one eyebrow, lifts his shoulders in a slight shrug, and leaves the water there anyhow, doing another round of klah-refills. Opa adds, "For apprenticeships, that is," before taking a bite. Johann looks skeptically at Duvetyne. "Journeyranker, don't you think you should wait a bit longer before having another glass of wine?" Varina p fee=she'll learn. she's very new. Varina mavs. oh boy. Duvetyne frowns and sneaks off to find her own bottle. Weavers> Fiona snickers. Looks like Varina is the one who's had a bit too much to drink. ;) Weavers> Varina giggles. No, it's the ben and jerry's sorbet that's gone to my head. Alcyone eats with the efficiancy that really only an apprentice can, alternating between bites of fish, cheese and tuber. Varina nods to Opa, "Well, I can't complain about that," she says, pausing to take a bite. "And I'll learn... Who's that?" she asks, trying to point at a new face at the back of the hall without appearing to point. Probably a rather vague point indeed. Opa nods emphatically. "Can't indeed." She looks around to see who in the world Varina could possibly be pointing to. Finally she settles for, "Ummm...I can't tell from here." Jekar makes his way back to the Journeymen's table, filling mugs as he is called to, and looks over to Fiona with a slight frown. Moving closer, he mumbles to her. Opa satisfies a good portion of her hunger, finishing off half of her fish, before putting her fork down and raising her voice to address the room. "Master Varina was just mentioning to me how many new faces she's seeing tonight. I think this would be a good time to introduce some of them to everyone." Varina frowns, "The one in the... Oh, I'll find out when you introduce the newcomers," she finally says, and returns her attention to the plate of fish. Fiona blushes at Jekar's comment, then shakes her head, "Just a bug I think. Isn't there something going around?" Weavers> Varina neatly inserts her pose just before Opa's. There. Much better. :) Jekar hms. "Not that I'm aware of...then again, it /is/ winter. Perhaps you've caught something from a rid...visitor?" Opa peers around, trying to spot faces. Fiona snorts at Jekar and goes back to picking at her food, "They are all /very/ helthy, thank you." Tarma stomach flip/flops...she's nervous. Opa ahs, extending her arm to indicate one of the apprentice tables. "Aha, there's Tarma. Tarma, can you stand up for a moment so everyone can see you?" Sachi sets her plate down and draws her knees up so that she is sitting crosslegged on her chair. She fidgets with the end of her braid while waiting for something more interesting to happen. Varina nods, murmering quietly, "That was her... Oh, that's Tarma, you mentioned her to me." Jekar has no reply for that, resuming a stony silence as he retreats a few steps, returning his attention to the Masterweaver, and then glancing over to the newly-introduced with a slight nod, probably gone unnoticed. Tarma blushes and stands up. Tasmin strides in from the kitchen and storage area. Opa smiles reassuringly. "Tarma is our newest apprentice." Tarma smiles at everyone, hoping they will like her. Weavers> Tasmin sulks at 90 minutes of busy signals. :( Opa looks around the other apprentice tables, frowning. "And either Evaine and Devill are hiding *very* well, or they're not here." She seems to give up. "Well, Evaine and Devill are two of our other new apprentices." Tasmin, who was here all the time, unfortunately under a table asleep, somehow, peeks his head up. "Mmmf, I wondered what the noise was." Jekar softly repeats the names to himself, so that he'll remember if he sees any new faces. Sachi giggles. Varina murmers softly to Opa, "I saw Devill with Caladin, earlier, he's probably keeping his apprentices late, as usual." Opa nods at Varina's words, murmuring back. "Yes, most likely." She smiles again at Tarma and indicates that she can sit down again. Then she seems to hear Sachi's giggle and she turns to stare at her. Tarma sits down, reslieved not to be the center of attention any more. Sachi covers her mouth and tries to stop giggling. She manages to stiffle the noise... but her shoulders still shake. Davill's position: Junior Apprentice Weaver <*> Unofficial Former Tillek Hold resident Opa points at Sachi, eyebrows raised. "Is that your giggling I hear?" Tarma offers Tasmin a filled plate, since he missed dinner. Alcyone pushes the last bit of food on her plate around with her fork, pausing to glance down the table at Sachi. Tasmin peers at Tarma. Then peers again.. and slides /way/ down next to her to.. uhm, to enjoy his dinner of course. My, another pretty one. Duvetyne returns to her seat, quietly. Weavers> Opa aiee, Davill, yes. Drat. I've spelled it wrong on the web page. :/ Sachi takes her hand from her mouth and keeps trying to calm down, "Uh.... yes ma'am." She gulps in between snickers. Opa sighs loudly and turns to Varina. "Sachi's giggling during dinner," she informs her in a serious tone of voice. Her eyes are twinkling, but none of the apprentices can see that. Jekar crosses his arms, leaning back against the edge of an empty extra table, simply watching, waiting. Varina turns a stony gaze to Sachi for a long moment, then turns back to the CraftMaster. "Oh dear," she intones. "I can see we're going to have to follow through with what we discussed earlier." Sachi gets a slightly worried look on her face, but still she cannot seem to stop giggling... though by now, they are more nervous giggles than actually finding anything amusing.... Not that anyone would know that.... Fiona glances over at Jekar with a frown and a sigh, then beckons him closer. Opa nods slowly, ominously. "I think so." She turns back to face the giggling apprentice. "Sachi, come here." She crooks a finger. Sachi 's face looks even more worried. She gets up still emitting faint giggles and walks slowly toward Master Opa, having lost her usual skip. Jekar glances from giggling apprentice to Masters, then hurries over to Fiona. "hm?" Varina shakes her head mournfully, watching the apprentice with a sombre face. Fiona pulls Jekar into a seat next to her and shoves her mostly full plate in front of him. "Eat," then turns to watch another apprentice get it from the masters. Jorai makes a face of disgust, tossing her napkin onto her plate and helping herself to Ty's pilfered bottle. Opa watches Sachi with an equally sombre face as she approaches, and her head can be seen shaking slightly from side to side. Finally as Sachi reaches the table, she pulls out a full apprentice's knot. Sachi face begins to lose it's worried look and blooms into a full Sachi smile, "You're kiddin'! For me?" Jekar snorts softly, not touching the food though he does allow Fiona to physically sit him down. He's a drudge, and as such, waits 'til everyone else is totally finished with their meals. Opa holds the knot out further in response, as if daring Sachi to take it. Varina's stony scowl dissolves quickly into an encouraging nod to the newly promoted apprentice. Sachi glances at Master Opa and reaches for the knot... drops her hand in indecision... reaches again. And then bursts out in a full laugh, "Oh my, Master Opa. Do ya really want me ta jump for it? I can if ya really want me ta...." Duvetyne pours another glass of wine, wondering if she drank that much already by herself... Opa rolls her eyes upwards as if asking the ceiling for patience, and finally reaches forward and plonks the knot on Sachi's head. "Oh, just take it, for fardles' sake!" She grins. Taking some fried triangles of cheese from a pot, Johann lets the oil drain from them before handing them to Duvetyne. He admonishes Duvetyne to be careful because they are hot. Alcyone giggles and shakes her head. Then she stops short, biting her lip. She pokes violently at the remaining bits of cheese and noddes on her plate. Alcyone pokes at the noodles, too. Sachi reaches up and takes the knot from her head, "Thankya Master Opa, thank ya. Ya don't know what this means ta me." She bows and pivots to rush back to her seat.... before someone calls it some sort of mistake. Opa grins, then turns to Varina again. "Now...who else was it that we were going to 'see to' tonight?" Tarma finishes her dinner in time to join in the cheer for Sachi. Jekar leans back in his chair with nary a glance for the food in front of him. He tilts his head to look at Fiona, and then mutters to her. Tasmin sulks, as Tarma seems to eb ingnoring him. He just-so-gently nudges her, then, in anticipation, smiles at the side of her head. Varina glances around the room carefully, then turns back to Opa. "I'm afraid she's too busy with other things," she comments. Jorai yawns sleepily, head resting in her hand, taking sips from her glass as she watches. Fiona shakes her head, looking pointedly at the plate in front of Jekar, "I'm just a little tired I guess, and I /do/ wish you'd eat that before it gets cold." Tarma looks back at Tasmin, smiling..."Isn't it gr eat about Sachi?" Opa folds her across her chest, nodding. "Perhaps she might even fall over if we asked her to come up here." Tasmin almost glances around, but decides just to nod to Tarma, "Yes. Isn't it, though." Varina nods slowly, "That would be a shame." Jekar shakes his head slightly as well. "I eat nothing until everyone else is done. And if you're tired, drink klah. That's what it's there for, Fiona." Weavers> Fiona throws some arms in Opa's pose. ;) Weavers> Jorai goes to watch the women's gymnastics who are now in first place Weavers> Jorai be back shortly, btw :} Opa nods. "We can't have that. Well then..." She raises her voice, pointing to an apprentice at random. "Tasmin! Be a dear and run this new knot over to Duvetyne, will you?" Opa waggles a full apprentice's knot at Tasmin, complete with Benden area colours. Duvetyne looks up from the table with her mouth full of cheese, "Hrrrumf?" Fiona gives Jekar a look that clearly says she's holding back a snappish comment, then turns her attention back to the proceedings. Opa er, *journeyranker*. Bad Opa. Weavers> Varina heees! you've been demoted, Ty. too much wine. Weavers> Duvetyne thought she had just gotten demoted. ;) Tasmin looks up from.. er.. getting to know his peers better.. to Opa, "Of course.. but are you sure I mightn't steal it on the way? I would /certainly/ make good use of it." Before she can answer, he's snatched it.. and delivered it promptly Jekar sighs softly, grabbing a spiced meatroll and all but stuffing it into his mouth to eat quickly. His look, returned to Fiona, is comparative to 'There, happy?' Weavers> Opa looks sheepish. No, sorry...just me being out of it, *again*. Opa chuckles, then nods at Tasmin as the knot is delivered. Fiona beams a smile at Jekar, then turns it to Ty, "Congrats. Watch you don't get cheese on it, though." Duvetyne smiles, swallowing, "Thank you, Tasmin." She beams to the others in the room. Tasmin sits back down, fingering his own knot, and muttering under his breath to himself before clapping for Duvetyne. Tarma claps and cheers for Duvetyne. Jekar swallows with the help of a sip of Fiona's klah, then nods over to Duvetyne. "Or wine." Opa smiles her own congratulations at Duvetyne before addressing the room again. "Well...I have a few announcements to make as well. We've got a number of Weavers who will be moving around very soon." Weavers> Fiona uhms, "Do we ICly know that already? Those of us moving, that is?" Weavers> Jekar would guess not, looking at walking-tables in Dragonsinger. :) Weavers> Opa ummm...sure! :) Well, Jorai and Broccal probably don't, but Fiona, you would. Weavers> Fiona okees. That's what I thought. Opa says "At the moment, we're working on negotiating some fair contracts for the postings of Jorai and Broccal." She smiles. "Jorai will be going to the Western area, and Broccal the Northern area." Opa smiles in Fiona's general direction. "Which leaves Fiona free to move back to the Weavercrafthall." Fiona sits up in her seat at the announcement, then smiles with something akin to relief as she turns to Jorai, "Good luck. You'll need it with all the traveling in that area." Duvetyne chuckles and pats Jorai's shoulder, "Good luck." Opa looks particularly pleased at her next announcement. "As well, Mastertailor Zelez is going to be moving back to the hall from Ista Weyr." Jekar turns in his seat to smile to Jorai, and then grin at Fiona. "Welcome back," he offers. Sachi grins at Fiona. Fiona grins at Jekar, "You'll be sick of me soon enough." Weavers> Opa says, "Yes, it's true...Zelez is alive again. :)" Weavers> Tasmin says, "With a Real Player (tm)?" Jekar smirks faintly. "/Never/." Weavers> Opa noodles. Opa says "So, it's a tad early, but I'd like to welcome Fiona back, and wish Jorai and Broccal the best of luck at their new postings!" Jorai smiles a bitmore heartfully at that. Weavers> Opa says, "Alright, anyone with anything to show-and-tell should give me a yell now. :)" Weavers> Sachi says, "Can I share my new gather dress?" Fiona peers round the hall, pegging those apprentices she'll have more time to torture.. er, teach now that she's back. Weavers> Jorai sorta left hers and HRW, loser that she is. Opa taps her lips thoughtfully. "I believe that was it for the announcements...Sachi, were you the one who was talking to me earlier about showing everyone a dress?" Weavers> Jorai says, "At, even" Jekar leans over to murmur something to Fiona with a wicked smile. Sachi glances suspiciously at Fiona... "No, ma'am...." But her face flowers into a grin, "But I do have a new dress to show. Would you like to see it? I can go get it." Opa smiles and nods. "We'd like that." Sachi hops out of her chair and scurries out of the room. Sachi moves through the large doorway to the north and outside the Weavercrafthall. Sachi strolls in through the entrance leading out of the Hall. Fiona keeps a straight face as she nods seriously to Jekar, "Of course. We've only just begun." [Opa gets booted] Weavers> Tarma says, "I got booted, sorry." Weavers> Opa did too. Sigh. Opa looks away from Sachi a moment to smile greetings as Haldi arrives. Sachi waves at Haldi while bobbing about the room. Varina finally notices Haldi's arrival and breaks into a smile to see another journeyranker is visiting. Haldi smiles back and scurries in to scoot to her seat at the journeyranker table. Tarma whispers to Sachi..."The dress is lovely, Sachi!" Sachi nods, "Thank you." Duvetyne frowns, "I did not think to bring the dress I made for Malia...Master Malia..." Fiona elbows Jekar to move over ahd gives Hladi a hug as she sits down, whispering, "Hey you!" Jekar nods as Haldi approaches, then looks Sachi over appraisingly. "Not bad../oof/." he moves over with a good-natured mutter. Haldi grins at Fiona as she hugs back. For the gather, Sachi is a purple hyacinth flower. Her slender five foot tall height makes her seem like a winter pixie flitting about the festival crowd. The bodice of her dress is the color of light crystaline amethyst while both the sleeves and the floor-length skirt are made of seven overlapping layers of successively darker purple flounces with the bottom flounce deepening to the purple color of twilight. She has looped her long medium brown hair into a single loop topped by a flower made of the same seven colors of purple as her dress. Her brown eyes sparkle merrily out of her heartshaped face as she dances about enjoying the festivities. Sachi is 17 Turns, 7 months, and 3 days old. Opa nods agreement. "Very lovely...beautiful colour." Sachi piroettes about the room so that the others can see. "Let me go put it up...." She stops for a moment, "We kin go ta the Bitra gather?" Jekar nods again. "Aye. Beautiful." Varina echoes Opa's praise. "Very beautiful. Lovely job with the flounces." Opa chuckles. "Well, *someone* has to go to the gather...the tent won't staff itself." Jorai jerks awake with a snort, "Hm? Tent? I can do that." Sachi grins, "Great!" She begins to leave.... "Oh, wait.... is the meeting over yet?" Opa brightens. "Which reminds me...I forgot to mention that our very own apprentice, Damian, has been Searched for Benden's current clutch. So I think there will be a number of Weavers travelling to Benden come Hatching day." Jekar frowns faintly. "Benden," he mumbles to himself. Weavers> Opa grins at Sachi. Dunno...does anyone have any objections if we move into the OOC portion? Duvetyne nods, "I will make a point to drop in on him." Opa smiles at Duvetyne. "Oh, good! Make sure he's not dishonouring the Hall or anything." She grins. Weavers> Jekar says, "none here." Weavers> Tarma says, "Will BRB, must take shot...." Fiona pokes Jekar in the ribs, and murmurs something about felines.. Jekar actually scowls at Fiona. Weavers> Opa nods. Right. OOC portion it is. Opa waves her magic wand, and - tadah! OOCness. :) Fiona repokes Jekar, oocly even. ;) Jekar grrrs at Fiona, then. And now declares himself king of Weavers. :) Sachi grins and even has an ooc question. Jekar gasps. Opa says "Alright! First and only item of business this month, apart from Jekar's new status as Weaver Monarch, is the Mentoring System! :) I'd like to get this approved so that we can start it up as soon as possible. This is everyone's chance to make comments, suggestions, critiques, or to just say 'yeah, go for it'. :)" Opa woos! I'll take it after we do this mentoring bit, okay Sachi? Fiona says "Go for it!!" Jekar hms. "If Fiona can be my personal mentor (I need therapy), then go for it. :>" Sachi says "Mentoring system, can I get it emailed to me, then?" Haldi grins. Go for it. Fiona thwaps Jekar, "Oh hush." :) Tasmin says "Ignorance is bliss! Mentoring no! (Seriously, tho.. I don't have the email but go right ahead ;)" Opa grins at Fiona. "So far, I've gotten positive feedback about it, and no negative feedback, but again, this is your chace to tell me you hate it. :) There have, however, been no comments on the little amendment about matching mentees with mentors not only on the basis of interest, online hours and favourite persons, but also meshing personalities. Thoughts? Opa says "Do you have ftp access, Sachi?" Jekar says "Thoughts? What? What're /those/?" Sachi says "Maybe, Let me look." Opa says "They're those strange things that come to you when staring off into space? :)" Fiona says "Just that there's only so many of us to match up to, so people may not have too much room to be picky." Tasmin says "ive' seen this sort of system turn into a codified means for arse-smooching in other crafts. How would we make it.. well, useful but .. wel, for other things than maximizing advancement." Broccal heads in through the archway from the teaching wing. Broccal says "Hi. Sorry I'm late." Opa nods at Fiona. I realise that. But our journeyrank population is ever increasing...and here comes one more now. :) Jekar pokes Broccal. "No you're not. ;)" Jekar says "Can I be a J'man drudge? With a posting and a Stu? ;)" Weavers> Tarma says, "I'm back. What did I miss?" Varina says "I'm a little sceptical about our skills of matching personalities." Weavers> Opa says, "We're talking about the implementation of a new mentoring system, Tarma. :)" Broccal says "If you're a j'man drudge, does that mean you go from Hall to Hall practicing your craft?" Jekar has done so already, actually. ;) Jekar has something to say about the matching-personality things. "We're weavers, not weyrfolk deciding on compatible personalities for dragon hatchlings. ;)" Opa says "Well, the *intention* of the mentoring system is to provide lots of new roleplaying possibilities and increase folks' sense of community. An arsekissing device is certainly not what I want it to turn into." Tarma says "What, exactly, is the proposed system? I can't say what I think of it till I see/read it." Opa nods at Tarma. Newness has its disadvantages. :) Do you have ftp access? Broccal holds up a hand. "I hate to say, but I agree with Jekar about the personality thingy" Opa nods at Jekar and Broccal. Okay. Varina, what was your comment? Tarma says "looks puzzled...What is ftp?" Tarma says "Ooops, meant to 'pose' that last." Opa explains to Tarma via page. Tasmin is cynical. But it can be good. Also, I'd hope it would be as open as possible, so that people who are being mentored would be able to mentor with anyone, should their people not be around much. Opa nods at Tasmin. Absolutely. It's not a case of 'this is your mentor and you can't roleplay with anyone else, or roleplay taking classes with anyone else, or roleplay being friends with anyone else.' Fiona says "I think the goal isn't so much to say 'You must RP with X cause she's your mentor' as it is to give apprentices someone specific they can turn too only Opa can type faster than me and beat me to it...." Broccal says "I kinda think of it as a college advisor." Fiona grins. Tasmin says "I guess what I wonder if this: if you're my Mentor, and Fiona is Tarma's mentor, and fi's on and your'e not, can Tarma and I both RP with Fiona in a 'mentoring' situation, or isn't that possible? The thing I like about classes is that /anyone/ has an IC reason to participate." Opa says "Sure...you know how Menolly was Robinton's apprentice, but she took special classes with Domick for instrumentation and whatnot? Same freedom." Opa grins at Broccal. Yeah, kinda like that. Tasmin says "Notwithstandig that she was unique in her position within the craft at the time..." Sachi likes the system. "It's cool." Weavers> Haldi is kinda tired and is going to dash soon. :) Jekar says "But then, everyone's unique. :)" Jekar says "/Camo/ was unique. ;)" Weavers> Haldi says, "From what I know of it though, I like the system and support it wholeharted.y. That is if I can spell :P" Varina's comment was just that I'm not entirely sure that Opa and I have the powers to match personalities with the mentors pair-ups. But I think that we can certainly take into consideration personal preferences. Jekar has a preference for Fi. :) Tarma says "I never know for sure when I am going to log on. I'd like to be able to rp with anyone. That way if I miss my 'mentor' I can still have fun." Weavers> Opa grins at Haldi. Sure. :) Thanks! Tasmin says "Your role model, Jakar? But that's beside the point. I just think energies might be more.. useful if it were more of a pulbic situation that would be a) open and b) of interesnce fonyweaver, not just a specic person. (LAG :<)" Weavers> Tasminhas terrible client-side lag. yping is shot. Jekar hehs. Role model. Yes. Camo's my hero. :) Tasmin prefers scheduled classes :) Broccal says "May I explain what I think mentors are supposed to be? A mentor is someone who HAS to help you. It's their responsibility to answer your questions. But, you are free to get help from anyone." Opa tries but can't quite ferret out your last point, Tasmin, sorry? Tasmin says "I feel like Mentoring system is just a codified relationship between 2 players. Right?" Tasmin says "How does this really improve general weaver RP?" Varina says "any way you want it to." Opa says "It doesn't improve roleplay. Individual people improve their roleplay. What it does is contain the potential for roleplay opportunities. It gives you more relationships with people within your craft, and those can be explored. It can give you more ideas for day-to-day roleplay, that kind of thing." Jekar says "Like...Candidate chores. ;)" Opa grins at Jekar. Tadah. Weavers> Sachi goes off to bed herself. "Night." Varina says "And I think it's great help to the new folks that come in to have some one that they can talk to for help. If you don't feel like you need a mentor OOCly or RP-wise, no one's going to force you to RP with your mentor or punish you for not RPing with your mentor, but the opportunity is there." Jekar deserves his position as King, see? And can Fiona be his Queen? ;) Tasmin mms, "I guess its okay. I don't *like* candidate chorse. They're contrived... like this. People should make their own IC relationships, that's the point of RP. What I feel would be best would be creating IC forums for people to make them themselv, instead of doling out these things..." Morayne steps in from the kitchen and storage area. Weavers> Opa says, "Night! Thanks for coming, Sachi!" Tarma says "I don't understand...I can talk to/ask questions of anyone I want....so what is the difference?" Opa says "Well, Tasmin, if you don't like it, then you're certainly not required to participate in it. Entering into a mentor relationship is not required." Tasmin nods, "I know. It just seems like.. like you and Varina issuing new weavers a set of friends and ICSO's." Varina says "Not everybody has the courage to ask anybody they want. It helps to have some one that's obligated to help you. :)" Jekar says "Candidate chores are /guidelines/. In my experience, if I could think of more original chores, I would do /those/, and it was greatly appreciated... Actually, now that I think of this, it's sorta like being asked to join a Flying Wing. Hm. :)" Fiona yeahs, "Join the Flying Spinners and see the world." ;) Tasmin says "I just feel like a Really Great Idea has been passed over for this fairly boring one which just articifically replicates what people should be doing anyhow." Opa says "Well, every time someone joins the craft, we're essentially issuing them a set of IC superiors - their CM and C2 (and masters and journeyrankers and...you get the idea). That's the way the craft works." Tarma says "I don't know if I want someone to be obligated....what if they really don't want to and the resentment showed? No fun for all concerned. On the other hand, I haven't read the proposal yet. I do like people to talk to me because they *want* to, though. (looks puzzled)" Varina says "what is the Really Great Ideathat we're passing over?" Opa says "Tarma, journeyrankers take on apprentices as their mentors because they want to. No one who doesn't want to get involved has to." Broccal says "Only j'rankers who *want* to mentor will mentor" Tasmin says "If i recall, we used to have classes. I remember at least one.. that was /really/ good. I want to do more. I even volunteered to do them. That's a weaver-wide RP event that allows people to meet 'n make friends and mentors and what-have-you, without making it something passed down from above. More IC, too." Tarma looks relieved..."th is better...." Varina says "Who said we were abolishing classes?" Opa says "This isn't a case of eliminating roleplayed classes because we want to have a mentoring system. The two are not mutually exclusive." Broccal says "Tasmin, I think the mentoring is partly an attempt to emulate the books more closely. Although, I have to say, I don't remember any evidence that any craft *but* the harpers mentored." Tasmin says "We haven't discussed them in.. like, forever. I feel like all this energy is going toards this. And we need classes more, IHMO :)" Broccal weaves to Madelaine Madelaine enters quietly, or tries to, since she's clearly late. Tarma looks at Tasmin.."Why don't you run a class then...best way to get something going is to leap in and do it.:) Tasmin says "I've offered in the past, Tarma." Madelaine waves a little bit at Broccal, not wanting to make too much of a show. Opa says "Classes are something we've been over, though. Journeyrankers can arrange roleplayed classes. Similarly, apprentices can arrange roleplayed classes and @emit an NPC journeyranker. It's open. I've said that at more meetings than I can count. :) If we haven't been having classes, it's because folks having been getting together to arrange them." Opa er, haven't, not having. Madelaine takes a seat in the back. Varina erases her comment to point at Opa. What she said. We'd -love- to have more classes going, it's just a matter of organizing them. Tarma hmmms....can't make people show up for a class if they don't want to...but I'd like to do a class, sometime. I just can't guarentee my on-line times.... Maarle steps in from the kitchen and storage area. Tasmin says "I just think we need them a /lot/ more. So why don't we organize tem. We can organize *this*..." Broccal waves to the mrl Opa waves to all the new arrivals, btw. :) Tarma waves hello to the new arrivals. Tasmin isn't being whiny. I just think there are things being missed here. Devil's Advocate & all that jazz. Varina says "we're not arguing against you on the classes, Tasmin." Maarle wavies and hides in the folds of a tapestry, he's uh...carrying out...the Weavercraft ghost... :) Tasmin says "I just don't see why we need a Mentoring system. I want one, I look who's online at the same time as me and page them. End of issue. Classes need more organization..." Maarle shrugs and smiles, "Coming from personal experience, it's kinda hard to ask people for help when you're first joining a MUSH. I remember the first time I joined a MUSH, I would debate before asking for help. It's easier for people to know that there's someone looking out for you willing to help." Opa says "I've been focusing on organizing the mentoring system for a number of reasons. One, it's a project that I feel has been ignored and shelved for far too long, I think it's a positive development for the Weavercraft, and I've been getting a number of indications that people are for it and want it to be implemented. Mentoring has nothing to do with roleplayed classes. You personally may not want to participate in a mentoring system, Tasmin, you may wish instead to focus on other things, such as classes. If that's the case, then go out and organize one. But for those who are interested in participating in the mentoring system, I'm interested now in knowing whether the proposal is alright with you, or if you have any critiques." Maarle says "Sorry for the jump in, if I'm outta order. :P" Tarma says "Actually, I made this meeting by accident. Was arranged to meet Opa and she told me about the meeting. Maybe a sign that you'll never be able to totally organize anything in a MUSH. Blessed accidents are more common?" Jekar would /love/ to see that Stand taken for a Hatching event. Or a Gather. ;) Opa says "It's been mentioned by Broccal and Jekar and Varina that meshing personalities is not a thrilling idea, so it sounds like that aspect of the proposal should be dropped. So I'm dropping it. :) Is there anything else?" Madelaine quietly raises a hand, "I'm all for the mentoring system' Tasmin says "What bout the existing mentor relationships?" Morayne still thinks mentoring is a good idea. :) Maarle raises a hand, "I'm all for a mentor, especially since my char's not exactly on the best of terms with any Jman around. :)" Jekar wonders if his vote counts (well, it /should/, he's King, after all). Go for it. Opa nods. Good point. The existing mentoring relationships were based on the really, *really* old mentoring system, i.e. pre-Opa-as-CM. We'll have to erase those, I'd imagine, and start from scratch. Opa grins at Jekar. Of course your vote counts. :) Jekar boingys. :) Tasmin says "No, I mean the IC ones. Like, I've used Fiona as a mentor before... other have more long-term ones..." Fiona wonders how the seacraft manages this since they've got a mentoring system and it seems to work. Jekar says "Craft secrets. ;)" Morayne says "Doesn't the MBH have it too?" Opa adds as a final aside that she thinks roleplayed classes are terrific, stupendous, wonderful and awesome. I'm all for them. I agree that they're really great RP events. Varina says "what's your worry, Tasmin? You can still use Fiona as a mentor, we're not going to stop that, and you could request that she be made your official mentor if you feel like she's already your mentor anyhow." Tasmin says "" Varina snickers. "Of course, Fiona could always say "No way in h---." :) Tasmin says "I just don't want the Official system to get inthe way for people to find/choose mentors the olde-fashioned way .. ICly." Fiona wonders how /she/ keeps being brought up as an example around here... :) Opa ose, well, when we start assigning mentors to mentees, you can list Fiona on your list of 'people I'd like to have as mentors'. But again, as in the books, Menolly had a mentor-type relationship with many of the masters in the hall, even though her primary one was with Robinton. Maarle says "People don't KNOW about the mentor system, heck, -I- don't know!" Maarle says "And I'm on teh mailing list. :P" Morayne grins at Fiona. Just cuz. :) Broccal says "Do you read your mail, mrl?" Opa nods at Tasmin. There's also nothing stopping an apprentice from coming to me and saying, 'Look. I know that X is my Official Mentor, but Journeyrank Y and I have ICly been developing a really good mentorlike relationship through RP, would it be possible for Journeyrank Y to be my Official Mentor?' Maarle says "Yes, I do." Opa says "Things can always be worked out." Tasmin nod,s 'Okay. I've just got a 'just-do-it' style of RP and I hate things that make me change that." *rubber-thump* Jekar hehs. You like scheduled classes but you like spontaneous stuff? Varina says "we're not implementing this in an attempt to restrict anyone or force an IC or OOC relationship on anyone." Morayne shrugs, "Well, there's nothing that forces anyone to use this mentoring sys, is there?" Opa definitely does not want to stifle anyone's style of RP by saying that they Must Conform to this system. But for those who want it, it'll be here. Tasmin says "Scheduled classes are IC. :> +mail-for-a-mentor isn't. Apprentices don't have +mail ;)" Broccal holds up a hand. "Does anyone have any specific gripes with the proposal beyond it's existence?" Tarma says "That sounds like a good comprimise then. Use it if you want, don't if you want." Opa says "No, but the assignation of mentors is IC." Opa grins. And Broccal has hit the point directly on the head. Tasmin says "True. :)" Varina says "I do have a question about the system." Opa says "Yes, Varina? :)" Fiona says "I think our main problem with this is just getting it started, newbies to the craft won't think to question it cause it'll already be in place. I'll hush now." Varina says "I'm not sure if it was made clear if it's a more OOC or IC arrangement. So, for example, will we only mentor people within their subcraft? If there are no weaver subcraft folks, will I have no mentees? That sort of thing." Opa grins at Fiona. Yeah. As the thing gets implemented, the rough edges of it will get sanded down, to use a bizarre kind of metaphor. :) Tarma says "I have a question too. Can I get Opa as a Mentor? (Bats suddenly bigger eyes and grins!)" Broccal says "NO. She's mine." Jekar takes Fiona. Even though he's not apprenticed. Spinning lessons, dontcha know. Broccal bats eyes at Opa. "If she'll have me." Fiona pokes Jekar, "Not in front of the kiddies." Jekar hehs. "I /am/ the kiddies. ;)" Broccal says "And to supplement Varina's question, what about us posted folks? Do we drag our apps with us, or leave them to Fiona's tender mercies?" Tasmin says "Actually, that's a problem, since in the books, mentor-rank was part of mentee-rank. How do we divvy up Opa ? ;>" Tarma says "But I'm cute, really I am! And I don't eat much! (giggles helplessly)" Fiona pokes broccal, next. "Is this pick on Fiona night?" Jekar snugs his Fi. "You betcha." Opa says "Goodness, I hope so...I made a point of thinking about that very carefully. Mentoring purely on the basis of subcraft totally doesn't work. It's primarily an IC arrangement because mentoring is IC and it's supposed to generate IC RP possibilities, but there's nothing wrong with turning it into an OOC way to get help/advice/whatever." Varina says "to answer Broccal, I think Opa mentioned in the proposal that having a posted mentor gives apprentices an IC excuse to travel as well as the journeyrank another excuse to return to the hall." Opa laughs. The way that works is: apprentices are mentored to journeyrankers. Journeyrankers in turn are mentored to PC or NPC masters. So if you're a journeyranker and you want me for your mentor, ask. :) Jorai has always claimed Varina and isn't about to let her get away now! ;) Opa grins. No, you don't drag them with ya...we tried that already and it left the hall dead. But yes, what Varina said. A glow basket opens over broccal's head. "Hey! That gives posted j'rankers an excuse to visit the Hall, also!" Opa doesn't really know if she answered your question, Varina. ICly, it's more canon for apprentices to be mentored to journeyrankers of the same subcraft, and same with journeyrankers being mentored to masters. So we would *try* to match people up according to subcraft, but the world won't end if we don't. :) Most apprentices aren't subcrafted anyway, so it doesn't matter. :) Tasmin leaps off his Soapbox 'o Negativity. : Opa grins at Broccal. Yep! Maarle says "So I'm stuck with Fiona? Ick..." Fiona POKES Mrl. "I'm about to get grouchy here..." :) Opa says "Again, the rough edges theory of system implementation. :)" Maarle already -is- grouchy. Broccal pats Fiona. "it's okay, dear. would you like some felis juice? Fiona just steals the remainder of Ty's bottle of wine and downs it. "Ahh. I feel much clamer now." :) Fiona feels calmer, tll even. Fiona quietly gives up on typing... Morayne didn't know you had an affectation for crustaceans, Fiona. :) Tarma says "As long as she doesn't clam up....hehe!" Opa says "Okay, what I would like to do now is take any remaining questions, and then anyone who wants the proposal changed before it gets implemented should let me know. If there are none, I propose that I start going about getting it put into place." Varina grins. "I guess I ask because I want to have some journeyranks under me, but seeing as the only wvr journeyrank is a robot, I was hoping I could stil mentor folks. :) Tarma says "A robot?" Fiona wants to mentor too. And someone besides Mrl. :P :) Opa grins at Varina. Ahhhhh. Gotcha. No, don't worry Varina, you can have mentees. :) Tarma says "After all, everyone knows Fiona is no shrimp - she's got muscles!! Hehe (Someone stop me!)" Opa says "Like, an unsubcrafted journeyrank can be mentored to any master. It would be nice if a subcrafted journeyrank could be mentored to a master of the same subcraft, but not earth-stoppingly vital. Remember, NPC masters can be mentors of journeyranks too. :)" Jekar offers himself to Fi. "You c'n have /me/ ;)" Fiona bites her tongue on the obvious response to Jekar and notes that there's going to have to be a limit on numbers, too. Opa says "Journeyrankers make the limits themselves. If you personally have the time to mentor 12 people, go for it. :) All that needs to be said is, "Opa, I can't take on any more apprentices."" Maarle says "Opa, I can't take on any more Jr. Apprentices. :)" Opa says "Alright, the gavel's going down for questions. Going..." Jekar ooohs! Question! Opa says "Yes?" Jekar says "Can I have a Posting and a Stu? ;) *duck*" Morayne makes a whispered reminder bout the squeaky hammer. Tarma says "She's not a crab, either, and ...(Cocking noises as Tarma g aga herself, forceably!)" Opa bonks Jekar on the head with the gavel. That's not a mentoring system-related question! :) Jekar wells, you didn't /say/ that. Jorai says "Kerry Strung landed a vault on one leg after hurting it on the first try to give the USA the gold in women's gymnastics. Just so y'all know :)" Opa grins. Going twice... Broccal nods. "That was amazin, eh, Jorai? Morayne nodnods to Jorai. Painful... Opa wows at Morayne, we must be psychically linked. I didn't see your bit about the squeaky hammer until now. Broccal says "It's decided that sr apps don't mentor, right?" Opa nods. Yes. Sr. Apps don't mentor. Maarle is glad he dug it out from somewhere. Morayne grins. "Just thought I'd do it... though it's usually Mrl's job. :)" Jorai wants her computer and TV back together :/ Opa says "Going for the last time..." Jekar oos! Question! ;) Tarma says "I will read the proposal, and get back to you on it, Opa. OK?" Opa nods to Tarma. Absolutely. Once you get it and read it, just ask me any questions you want. :) Jekar says "Can /I/ have a mentor? :>" Broccal says "Jekar, ask Johann" Opa grins at Jekar. Yes, your mentor is one of the more experienced kitchen drudges... Jekar whees. Weavers> Madelaine says, "brb." Opa says "Gone!" Broccal grins at Madelaine's timing. Morayne grins at Opa. Good timing for Madeline. Jekar says "okay. /NOW/. Can I have a Posting and Stu? ;)" Opa says "Alright. Now is your chance to say "Opa, I think changes need to be made before this is implemented." (the proposal as it stands now is without the personality thing). If everyone thinks it should go forward, I'll start asking people for lists of people they want to mentor/be mentored by." Tarma says "What is a STU?" Opa squeaks Jekar once again. STU indicates your area of study, your subcraft. Tarma ooohs... Opa raises the gavel for objections. Anyone who thinks the proposal needs to be changed, speak up now. Going once... Tarma says "Ummm...how can I know if it needs changing if I haven't read it yet?" Opa grins at Tarma. You're special. If you think it needs changing after tonight, give me a yell and we'll see what we can do. Tarma says "OK." Opa says "Going twice..." Opa says "Going One Last Time..." Fiona plasters a hand over everyone's mouths so they won't object. Opa SQUEAK Morayne mrmphs!! ;) Tarma bites the hand....Really, the nerve of some people! :) Jekar kisses Fi's hand, tho. ;) Opa says "Right. Mentoring system implementation will now commence. :) All interested apprentices, +mail me with your area(s) of interest in the craft, your general online hours, and a list of journeyrankers you'd be interested in having as your mentor. Journeyrankers interested in being mentors, +mail me with a list of apprentices you'd be interested in having as your mentees. Journeyrankers interested in having PC or NPC masters as mentors, +mail me with your preferences - and if you're making up an NPC for your mentor, give me a char blurb too. :)" Opa will announce this on the bboard, too. Maarle says "Fiona's already my mentor, by default, I think. " Jekar says "Mine too. :>" Fiona says "No, I'm not. We established you don't have to stay within your subcraft." Tasmin thinks he'll withdraw from Fiona. She's overtaxed. I'll take NPCla. She's 10x smarter, anyhow ;) Broccal chuckles at the mrl. "Who would you rather have, mrl? " Opa says "Thank you for your patience, ladies and gents. :) Next item of business...open forum. And I have something to say. I just wanted to let folks know that like many other folks, I am also spending much free time this week watching Olympics. In addition, I am slated to get Internet access from my desk at work fairly soon, which means online time for me during the day. That's it. Anyone else with anything else to say, page me." Tarma says "Can somone post what various Journeypeoples and Masters specialties are, so us apprentices can choose with as much info as possible?" Maarle says "Maarle has had run-ins with all the Jmen in this craft, none of them pleasant. great." Tarma says "Do I just add a knot to my desc. myself?" Opa will teach you to use the knots, Tarma, so that you can find that out yourself whenever you want. Morayne says "Tarma, they're all in the wvr rosters and +rwho." Opa nods at Tarma. Feel free to add a knot description to your @desc. The Weavercraft knot colours are lavender and white. Tasmin winks, "Quite the /manly/ colors." Jekar oh yeahs. Opa nods at Tasmin. Very imposing and forceful. Tarma says "Oh, goody. Now I can add my second fire lizard. FL are OK, yes?" Varina says "I guess I should tell ya that I'm still going to be less active as a Weaver Craftsecond for the next couple of weeks. RL's taking all my attention for serious things at the time. I'm here, and I can do some stuff as needed, but major things like interviewing or approving your 6-outifit commission should go to Opa for a few weeks." Maarle says "Only in mass quantities." Tasmin disappears in a puff of green cheese. (DON'T ask :>) Jekar wants to know about that green cheese, Tasmin. ;) Morayne wonders why its not that manly lavender and white?!? Tasmin pokes Rayne and disembowles Jekar. G'night! Maarle says "Because this craft is dominated by females anyway." Jekar oohs, looking after his guts. "Cool." Morayne pokes at them, "Not bad, Jekar." Opa hugs Varina. Hope your chaos is minimal. Broccal says "Hey, their lavender and white!" Broccal says "I mean, they're of course." Opa says "Alright, anyone else? I can't believe it, this is my worst meeting ever, almost three hours. Gosh, I suck at brevity." Broccal snugs Varina. If we can do something, let us know, Varina. Jekar replaces his intestines and whatnot. "Okay. Who wants t' give me stitches?" :) Maarle says "Easy. Rule with a squeaky gavel. Tell everyone what to do and make it law. :P" Tarma says "Nope...All done for now, I think. Thanks for accepting me, again!:)" Broccal says "Opa, could you give me a synopsis of tonight's meeting?" Jekar was made King, Broccal. Opa grins at Tarma. No problem. Opa says "Three hours and all we did was make Jekar king. Not a bad night's work. Alright, you all have 5 seconds to bring up anything else." Tarma says "Good luck with the RL, Varina." Jekar hms. Yay Amy van Dyken. sp. Broccal says "When will we know the assignments?" Opa S*Q*U*E*A*K!!! That's it, folks. Thanks for coming out. I'll get the log of this ready as soon as I have the bravery to confront it. Jorai LOL Tarma says "Um...I just thought...waht do I do about linking/a cot, etc?" Opa says "Well, you guys need to +mail me with your preferences first, then I'll mix and match and then I'll let y'all know." Maarle says "There's a cot builder in the female dorms."
