Tapestry: Ruathan Night Sky

Date:Early 1995

Crafter's rank: Apprentice Master

This hanging serves as a curtain covering the entranceway to Sylvan's private room. Appropriately, it depicts a scene of a perfectly clear night sky, as seen from Ruatha, for those who can recognize the glowing fireheights near the bottom of the work. The rest of the piece is a panorama of brilliant planets and twinkling constellations woven in silvery threads. Midway up the tapestry is the bright form of waxing Timor. The smaller Belior, unfortunately, is nowhere to be seen, evidently hidden at this point in the planetary dance. However, the yellow planet, named Faranth for its size and luminosity, hangs high in the sky. Woven in wavering stripes of gold and yellow threads, its prominence in the work is outdone only by the ominous form of the Red Star in the top right corner. Although its colours are darker than those of the planet, they are stunning in their intensity, giving form to the erratic wanderer which so regularly intrudes into Pern's skies. The lavender and white Weavercraft seal sewn discreetly into one corner bears a Master's stamp.
