Tapestry: Gr'vor and Tith

Date: around August, 1994

Crafter's rank: Apprentice Master

This tapestry depicts the most emotional moment possible in the life of any Pernese - the scene of Impression. Set in Fort Weyr's hatching sands, muted shades of brown form the cavern walls. Towards the top of the work are the ledges, indistinct blue, green, bronze and brown forms representing the adult dragons bearing witness to the joyous moment. Upon the sands are a few as yet unhatched mottled eggs. Also scattered upon the ground are the shards of broken shells. The tiny body of a brown fledgling can be seen disappearing off the right side of the work in search of his lifemate. Such details, however, merely serve as background to the focus of the tapestry. A young lad with a mop of curly dark blond hair is kneeling, tears coarsing down his cheeks, in front of a small iolite blue hatchling. The beast is looking up adoringly into the boy's face, his faceted eyes woven so cleverly with reds and purples that they seem almost to whirl as the light hits the tapestry. The blue's hide, too, ripples as the illumination of the cavern hits it from various angles. Below the happy pair is the title, sewn in a large, elegant script with inky black threads: Gr'vor and Tith. Further down in the right corner is the lavender and white seal of the Weavercraft, with the words Master Opa.
