Theylissia was one of
the greatest priests of the Aegis to ever walk the land. Kind, compassionate and
understanding he was always there with just the right words to say or just the right thing
to do. Wise and penitent he would often go on fasts to cleans his mind and body to
make him worthy of the power that the Aegis saw fit to grant him. He crossed the length and breadth of the land preaching tolerance, penance, faith, and hope. He brought the Aegis into the lives of those who needed it and did his best to act as a shield for the weak. But then the wars came, the dark ones breached the great walls and poured into the world of man like acid into a chickens coop. Throughout the slaughters Theylissia was there, fight back the forces of evil to the best of his abilities, he was there at the fall of Daytoo, was captured and forced into a life of slavery. Now a prisoner in the forces of Hell, Theylissia saw how the other prisoners around him were broken by hopelessness and despair, he spoke to them of the Aegis and mostly they ignored him. Five years he was a prisoner of Hell and five years his faith never wavered though his skin became gaunt and his teeth fell out from malnourishment. He was preaching the Aegis and her power to the other prisoners when one of them, near death, could take it no more and shouted that if his god was so damn great why is he in this death camp, about to die. Theylissia said that when the time was right, when they had weapons the Aegis would help him to escape. The man said that there were weapons easily available, but what would be the point? The well armed and armored guards would easily slice the unarmored prisoners in two. Theylissia stood and asked for a weapon. The man gave him a mace that the prisoners used in gladiatorial contests for the amusement of their captors. Theylissia held the mace loosely in his emaciated had and said "The greatest armor from any foe is that of faith." Theylissia walked to the guards and demanded to be released, the guards laughed. Theylissia warned them that if they did not release him, he would fight for his freedom. This brought more laughter from the guards, Theylissia then struck one of the guards in the knee with his mace toppling the guard and crushing his knee. The other guard attacked, raising his blade above his head he swung down violently, the other prisoners watched, waiting for the priests body to fall into two pieces. But it didn't. The sword blade stopped two inches above Theylissias head. The priest closed his eyes and prayed a soft thank you to the Aegis as it seemed a misty form of an angel covering Theylissia with her arms and wings could almost be made out. He swung his mace up sharply, driving the guards jaw through his brain, killing him. The other prisoners jumped to their feet shouting, grabbing weapons they attacked the remaining guards, all of the feeling the soft breeze of an angel at their back, and they won their freedom and the freedom of all the other prisoners in the camp. Theylissia died soon after he won his freedom, and a great stone pyre was built where he died to burn his body upon. The pyre still stands to this day at the center of Aegianholm, the primary cathedral for the church of Aegis. Theylissias Spirit Armor appeared on his pyre 100 years after his death, it is oddly shaped and fitting white plate mail made of an unknown metal, weighing almost nothing and never building heat, some say it is the coalesced essence of the millions of prayers for protection made at the pyre. When worn, it seems that a light list surrounds the wearer, sometimes taking on the form of an angel holding the wearers chest from behind and her wings covering the wearer. Theylissias Spirit Armor can only be worn by a man of will, and its protection is only as strong as the will of the person who wears it. The current whereabouts of Theylissias Spirit Armor are unknown, as after the death of Aladaar the thirteen fates hid it somewhere in the world to be found when it is once again needed. |
