The Shield of Tears is
one of the wonders of the world. Six feet long, three feet wide with a rounded
square shape. It is amazingly light, so light in fact that it can be used as a kite
with a good gust. It is curved more than a usual body shield, almost a semi-circle.
The metal of the shield is unlike any other, and in the sunlight it seems to
shimmer. If looked upon closely it seems to have a pattern of large feathers
embossed upon it. The most striking thing is that the shield is its appearance.
Deep blue, with an edging that seems to have been carved from a single massive
pear,l and bearing the image of a beautiful sad-eyed woman; half covering her face in a
veil. No one knows who created it or when. All that is known of its origin is that Aladaar the Mighty was found as a babe floating down the River Tarsis on it. If, from the legend of Aladaar, we can infer that Aladaar was not a mortal man, then the origin of the shield is curious indeed. It bears no makers mark and no one claims its creation. There is no clue as to the purpose or identity of the sad-eyed woman who's image is borne on the shield, though some claim that it is an image of Aladaars true mother, given to him so that he may remember her. The bearer of the Shield of Tears is doomed to grief. An event will happen in his life that will forever change him. The shield offers unsurpassed protection from all weapons of man and can deflect the spells of wizards, it also makes it very difficult for priests to work prayers against the bearer. The location of the Shield of Tears is unknown as it was hidden by the Thirteen Fates after the death of Aladaar.
