Mhrll, the King of Gods
and Lord of the Pantheon of Mhrll. A figure both known as wise and impulsive at the
same time, and often venerated in the harsh northlands. But it is another King we speak of here. During the first Era the nation of Sarll was a powerful and dangerous force. They raided with a fierceness and ferocity unmatched by any other. The talent and skill of the individual fighter was stressed far over formations and squadron tactics. The ability to fade away from a combat later regrouping to attack when least expected was the trademark of this fierce clan. Sarll (the king of the Sarll was always named Sarll) decided that his nomadic nation needed to find a home where the cold did not bite so bitterly and the crops were easier grown than the desolate islands that they called home. When in his travels he came upon the northern part of the continent he saw that it was good, and decided to make it home. The only problem was that the current occupants were not too fond of the idea, and were quite willing to fight if they had to. Sarll laughed at this. Who could stand up to him? He was the leader of the mightiest warriors in the world! So when the Sarll landed it was no surprise when they easily crushed the opposing forces there to stop them. It was almost too easy, but King Sarll didn't let that thought bother him too much, and the celebration of their victory lasted well into the next morning. They were in for a rude awakening, the people regrouped and attacked. Normally, this wouldn't have been a problem for the Sarll, but the people had come prepared. Their Aegisian Druids had prayed all night and summoned an avatar of The Aegis. Thirty feet tall, strong as oak and burning with holy fire, the entities gigantic shillelagh smashed through the Sarll ranks and forced them into hiding deep in the woods. This, you can understand, enraged King Sarll. In his eyes this was the lowest form of cheating. It was like getting your father to beat up a bully when you were nine. The more he though of this, the more he fumed. He called his priests and asked them if they could summon an entity to counter the Aegisian Avatar. They said they could but they wouldn't, as that would be akin to asking your father to drop a giant boulder on a small dog that was gnawing on your ankle, it would just be unfair to use Mhrlls far superior might like that. King Sarll agreed, but demand that they at least help level the playing field, his priest advised that he take it up with Mhrll himself. So he did. Standing on the top of a tree King Sarll started screaming and cursing at the top of his voice. Howling to the skies that Mhrll had better help him out or he and his warriors, when they died gloriously in combat and went to heaven, would seek out Mhrll and give him the beating of his godly life for letting them die in a fight with cheaters. Soon, every member of the Sarll was up in a tree and screaming, showing their agreement. The started threatening Mhrll and his pantheon with innumerable injuries and insults. In heaven, Mhrll heard the cries and ignored them. Then they became louder, and louder, and they just didn't stop. Mhrll rose from the his throne and looked upon his servants. Standing in trees? Threatening HIM? He could scarcely believe what was happening, sure the Aegisians had summoned an avatar, but that's cheating and he had no intention of cheating, even if the Aegis did it first. He was about to just smash the Sarll with a bolt of lightning till a thought came to him. The thought pleased him and a large smile curled through his beard. He called down to the Sarll proclaiming "I am Mhrll, and I will not be dictated to! I am the god of all who walk my lands and sail my oceans, and you will listen to my commands!" The Sarll replied in one voice from their trees, "We are not on your land! We are in the stinking trees! The Aegisians are cheaters and we demand you help us!" Mhrll responded, "You stand in trees! Is this not cheating when I say I command that which walks my lands? Get down and receive my rightful wrath!" The Sarll looked to each other and then to their King. The King looked to the heavens, and then stepped down from his tree and shouted, "If it is a fight you want then you have it! I accept your wrath for my people! I am not afraid of you! You are my Lord Mhrll, and I respect you, My Father! Strike me down if you must, but let me destroy the cheating Aegisians first!" Mhrll laughed, "You are indeed my son! If you want this to be your homeland you must earn it yourself, but I will aid your fight." With that, a bolt of lightning struck the ground and a large War banner bearing the Glyph of Mhrll appeared in the blackened crater it created. King Sarll took up the banner and called for his troops to regain arms. They assembled quickly, and eagerly rushed the waiting army and their avatar. The Sarll crushed the army that defied them and took a homeland that they have never been repulsed from since. Through the ages the Sarll became one with the empire and became friends with those around them. The Sarll capital became known as Starport at the end of the first era and many people are still proud to recall their Sarll bloodlines. Mhrlls War Banner is large, red, and had gold trim surrounding it. It is held on a single iron staff and crossbar with a crowned falcon (the symbol of Mhrll) made of steel on top. The blazing red banner has the Glyph of Mhrll on it in gold. In combat the banner will light afire but never burn. Mhrlls War Banner may only be held by a member of the Sarll bloodline. If the banner is put at the front of an army that army is immune to fear and will never break from combat, while armies confronted with the banner will be taken with great feelings of doom and dread. Those under the protection of the Banner will fight with the power of berzerkers and not know fatigue. Its most powerful asset is said to be that an army under the influence of Mhrlls War Banner cannot be affected by powers of any gods except those of the Pantheon of Mhrll. |
