Isk.  There are no mages more mysterious than he.  No one is even sure when he was born, if he was born at all.  The earliest accounts of him are in the 2nd Era almost 7,000 years ago.   Isk gained notoriety at that time for being able to decipher the Scrolls of Eternity left behind by the Aegis at the end of the Fist Era, a task none had been able to do for 3,000 years and he did it within his first hour of studying it.

Isk is rarely seen, when he emerges into society it is only for brief periods.  He is always seen in a faded red cloak and a weather-beaten hat.   His face is obscured by a long scraggly beard and his green eyes seem to pierce like daggers.  He never speaks in riddles or makes long what can be short.  He speaks simply and clearly leaving no doubt as to what he explains, but he won't explain what he thinks you don't need to know.

Once, during a war of the fourth era, a young and impetuous king demanded that Isk present himself before the court and explain the nature of the universe to him.  This demand went out across the land, and no one really expect Isk to show up, most couldn't believe that anyone would dare to demand anything of Isk let alone something so complex.  The king was trying to make a point that Isk was not as great as everyone said he was and so demanded this of him to prove it.

But Isk actually came to the mansion at Kings Crest and presented himself before the court.  He stood before the King without introduction and  began to explain coolly and calmly the nature of the universe and the gods and how the very nature of the universe flowed and ebbed.  His entire treatise lasted sixteen hours,  and when he finished he turned and left without another word.   The court fell into a shambles soon afterwards.  The king himself left to become a monk and many others followed him.  Some committed suicide and the kings archmage destroyed himself in a magical fireball that destroyed the top of the mages tower.  No one ever questioned Isk again.

Isk still lives, studying the universe and writing all that he has learned in a magical tome known as the Dienomicon, the book of the gods.   He currently lives in a small cave somewhere in the Spirewall mountains, and many people search for him in search of wisdom, but is any of them ever find him he just turns them away saying he has much greater concerns to deal with.
