Daytoo, the city in peril.

Earning its name when it was a small outpost for adventurers, Daytoo is in fact, two days from Aileens Post next to Denbeks Wall.  The city started out as a rough frontier town, supplying those travelling on to the Darklands or those who were exploring the catacombs and crypts of the long perished city that once stood where the outpost now did.

Being the closest "safe" city to the Darklands, the king sent a large army contingent there in case of any attacks overcoming the walls.   This was quite a blessing as it brought order to the rouges of the place and the new assumption of safety brought even more merchants to supply the adventurers going on their way.

Over time, many of those adventurers stayed, and the town grew.  Through wars and strife the city endured, though twice it was burned to the ground by invading forces and twice it was rebuilt- greater than before each time.   It is now the third largest and richest city of the empire, though it still retains some of its reputation as a frontier town.

There is still a massive complex of catacombs under the city yet unexplored.  Only the bravest of adventurers delve that deeply but items of power and hoards of wealth have been brought forth.  So few come back from inside these depths that few are brave enough to try for them.  The entrances to the catacombs have been sealed time after time, but some thing keeps breaking the seals, no matter if they are mundane or magical, not matter the power of the mage or cleric who placed them, all seals become broken.

When the city's sleep is disturbed by nightmares, and a foul wind blows cold from the catacomb, when an oppressive undetectable presence is felt, the seals shatter, and many wonder of the sanity of building a great city on the ruins of an ancient unnamed metropolis that was decimated centuries ago by some unknown thing.   A being who may still be present and only waiting for its moment to strike.
