It was the first term after the school moved its site. One day at lunch time, when a janitor was having his lunch, a white stray cat went into the janitor's room, which was a hut, and put down a kitten in one corner, and left the room.
The janitor examined the kitten closely. She was about 2 weeks old. She had black fur all over her body except on the paws and the tip of her tail, where the fur was white. She had a pair of rounf, soft blue eyes. 'It's interesting. This black kitten doesn't give me an unpleasnt feeling at all,' said the curious janitor. When other janitors saw her, they all agreed with him. So, the kitten settled down in the school, and was given the name, 'Lora'.
The next day at lunch time, a girl named Arol saw the kitten as she was exploring the school. Arol was a lonely girl who lived in the school dormitory. She came from a poor family, and was extremely quiet. She did not have much confidence in herself because she knew that she was, in any aspect, an extremely ordinary girl. She was in secondary school form one, and had not made any friends though it was then October.
When Arol saw Lora, she excliamed, 'Oh my! What a cute kitten!' She came to Lora and started to strike her. Lora first tremble, but then accepted Arol's love. They soon made friends. A few days later, Arol found out the kitten's name, and was surprised that 'Lora' was actually spelling 'Arol' invertly.
A week later, during dinner time, she ound that her roomate, Josie, did not appear. When Arol went into her room after dinner, she found Josie, her room mate sitting on her bed, head buried in the pillow to which she was clutching. Arol asked her, 'Josie, what's the matter with you?'
Josie whispered in a trembling voice, ' Ghost...I think I saw... saw a ghost... I came back to the room during the free lesson to do my work. Suddenly, I... I heard a shrieking laghter behind me. I turned around and saw a white... and thin boy making a face at me, and then he dis... disappeared into the thin air. I first considered it as my imagination, or an illusion because I was so tired then, but when I turned back again, I discovered in horror that someone had scribbled all over my homework book. You did not do that, did you?' And she collapsed onto the bed. I looked at her desk, and saw the ruin book.I tried to comfort Josie, by saying that although I had not done that nasty thing, may be someone had done that escapade, not ghost, and that when she saw the scribbled book, she imagined the ghost out to explain the tragedy, and so the ghost was only her imagnination. At last, Josie admitted that she was really tired and went asleep. Arol decided that she would go to bed too, so she switched off the light and slept.
Just as Arol nearly fell asleep, she heard something tapping and scratching on the window. She madde a great effort in order to open her eyes. She saw the soft, blue eyes of Lora twinkling like a star. She opened the window to let her in, and fell asleep again immediately.
