Detour
This episode is the first post cancer episode. It is full of sparks and inneundo so it is extremely long.
While riding in the car with the ever annoying other agents, Mulder begs Scully
"Kill me now." Scully smiles. Sorry it wasn't a spark it was just funny.
When Mulder runs off in the woods when they are stopped and finds an X-file. Scully knows he's not going to the conference.
" Hey you see we don't need that conference, we have communication like that, unspoken, you know what I'm thinking." How right you are Mulder, and that's why she should have know you love her and make the first move. Sorry I'm ranting again.
When she comes to Mulder's room with cheese and wine. At night, come by your partners room with cheese and wine. She then reminds him of bureau policy
" However, I must remind you this goes against the bureau policy of male and female agents consorting in the same motel while on assignment." to which Mulder answers
"Try any of the tail hook crap on me and I'll kick your ass."
Then when he tries to leave
"Maybe we should work on your communication"
"I'll be backsoon and we can build a tower of furniture" then flashes that grin which always melts scully (look at her face when he does it, it's true) to which Scully rolls her eyes then flashes a secret smile of her own. WHat did see have planned to do with Mulder when he came back. Alas we'll never know.
Now the Mulder/Scully radar is honed to perfection by this season. What is the M/S radar?? It's when either Mulder or Scully calls out a mininum of one time and the other can hear and locate the other in seconds. It is demonstrated in the scenes in the woods numerous times.
Then there is the Alpha Male protective stance Mulder has whenever he is around Scully. The straight back, hands firmly planted on hips, the Superman stance with out the cape and red underwear, though a red speedo would be nice. (If you've never seen Mulder in the red speedo, shame on you, the episode is Duane Barry, it is available on video. That episode also contains good spiky Mulder hair and wear.) Mulder also can only be convince by Scully to leave the woods after there guide disappears. He trusts Scully with the decision making.
Scully also demonstrates the Alpha Woman protective stance after Mulder is hurt. Though not as dramatic as Mulder it's presence is strongly felt in the night in the woods scene.
That Scene is what I would call ONE BIG SPARK.
When they are trying to keep warm Mulder says " I was told once the best way to regenerate Body heat is to crawl naked into sleeping bag with somebody else whos is already naked." Scully's reply?
"Maybe if it rains sleeping bags, you'll get lucky."
Mulder looks at her surprised but with a bit of pleasure. You could tell he was praying for sleeping bags. After she gets the bullet apart " Oh Taddh!" Mulder says? "Go girl". When the fire blows up, Mulder smiles and flashes her a loving amused look.
When Scully tries to lay Mulder across her lap to keep him warm he says" I don't want to wrestle." " I'm trying to keep you warm.' then Scully tells himto get some sleep. Mulder says " If you get tired, you wake me." " I won't get tired." Example of the Alpha woman protective. Mulder then akses Scully to sing something so he'll know she's awake. After a few objections Scully starts on 3 dog night's Joy to the world. Mulder's eyes open wide with surprise that she did it. Then he closes them, sighs contentedly, and settles in for the night. When she stops for a second, Mulder murmurs "Chorus." Scully starts in on the Chorus.
When she disappears into the hole, Mulder comes looking for her. the Muldre /Scully radar hones in on her. When he sees the other animal coming towards him, he jumps in behing Scully scaring her. " Jesus, are you okay?" Mulder replies " Don't mind me." as he rolls around in pain. Scully turns to him helps him up then quickly turns back and shoots the thing. Alpha Woman protective example.
After Mulder figures out the creature will hunt down whoever was in the woods, he goes after Scully. He screams and bangs on the wrong door when Scully opens the door he looks relieved that she is alive and says " Let's get out of here."
Redux 2
Ah this show hurt me. It was so beautiful. But there were too many missed opportunities to say I Love you in it it hurt. lets start.
Mulder burst into the hospital forgetting he's supposed to be dead, frantically looking for Scully
" Where is she?" when no one responds to his inquiries he gets loud. When some one tries to calm him he says
"I will calm down when someone give me a reason to calm down."
then when Skinner comes and said he looks goodfor a dead guy mulder says
"I'm only half dead?" Why? Cause his other half is dying at the moment.
He slows from shock when he finds her room and sees her, he can't catch breath grabs his knees to stay steady. He's having Chest pains.
" What happened to her?"
When Skinner says she's dying and grabs him Mulder tells him to let him go then Skinner says there's nothing you can do for her and grabs him again mulder tells him to back off. And Anasazi like shoving match ensues and Skinner literary throws mulder out of the hospital allowing a short pause from Mulder to gaze at Scully.
First time he comes to see Scully, he walks in smiling and kisses her cheek and holds her hand. When he refuses to give her info Scully says " Don't try and protect me " Mulder moves hand to temple touches hair lightly leans towards her gazing lovingly in her eyes moving in for a kiss then decides against it. GRRRRRRR!!!!!! Mulder !!!!! I could have killed him right then and there. Mulder love you babe but you should have kissed her then and there.
Then Scully says that he has to blame the guy in Mulders apts death on her, he is filled instantly with emotions of love and admiration and guilt they make him stutter
" I can can't do that" then Scully always giving says
" If I can save you let me." Mulder kisses hand gives her THE LOOK before leaving.
Bro bill who is bitter because its obvious Mulder is closer to his sister and mother than he is sheds light on Scully's side of things.
" She's your big defender but I think the truth is she just doesn't want to disappoint you"
Oh thank you Bill jr.
Then CSM and Mulder face off and Mulder goes off
" If Scully dies I will kill you. I don't care who's father you are, I will put you down."
Then when the chip is put back in and it SEEMs not to be doing anything Mulder comes to her lost. He has his patented I'm sorry it's my fault look as he touches her lightly on the cheek then he kneels down placing head on her hand and beings to cry for himself, for Sculy for her family and for a love they will never be able to fulfill. As the scene fades he kisses her hand. Look closely he does.
He comes back after meeting and comes to see scully " I was lost last night but as I stood here I thought I found my way. "
" I can't let you take the blame because of your brother, because of your mother, because I couldn't live with it." Then the ultimate sad moment, you see how truly lost Mulder would be without Scully
" Then why'd you come here if you already made up your mind."
" Because I knew you'd talk me out of it if you knew I was making a mistake." Tense sad laughter and loving smiles exchanged then the preacher walks in and Scully grabs and Squeezes Mulders hand and he kisses her cheek a little too long. The hands linger entwined in there love and Mulder looks back at her before leaving. AHH!! sigh.
