Journey into Daylight Part 1 6 months after Journey from Midnight " Down Kaja, Down" Mulder said three grocery bags in his arms. Where's Scully? He thought. She'd left early to go somewhere, but he thought she'd be back by now. He placed the groceries on the counter and went back to drag the 40- pound bag of dog food in. He checked the answering machine, 2 messages, one from her mom, one from his. " Hey Dana, this is a message for Fox. Don't let her name him Fox jr. No offense, but Fox Jr?" Mulder's heart stopped, he listened to the next one. " Hello Fox, don't let her name the poor baby after you, something nice like Shawn, Christopher, Jason, Austin, or maybe Shane?" Where is she? Why didn't she tell me? Mulder sat apprehensive by the door, waiting for her. My son, my little boy and she wants to name him after me, his smile widened as he heard her pull up. Scully pregnant! Wonder what that's going to look like. He met her at the door picking her up swinging her around then remembering the baby, placed her gently on the chair. "Can I get you anything? Are you hungry?" " Uh no Mulder, but thank you. I have a surprise for you . ." " I already know your mom and my mom called. Why didn't you tell me? How long have you known? My little boy." Scully looked at him confused. " Your little boy? What are you talking about?" " Huh?" The wind knocked out of Mulder " What?!?" " They weren't talking about what you think. Here let me get him." Scully went outside and came back with a fuzzy husky puppy in her arms. " Mulder, meet Fox Jr." Mulder's mouth fell open then he started to laugh. " Don't tell me you thought I was pregnant Mulder?" Mulder grinned, a sheepish grin and looked at her shamed. " Oh my god Mulder!! Here, hold your son." Mulder accepted the puppy who looked at him warily. " I think he's a momma's boy already." Scully laughed as she brought in the rest of Fox jr.'s stuff in. " Umm honey, now Fox jr, um maybe . ." " What Mulder, it's perfect. Look at him, he looks just like a little fox. Since your already named Fox, Fox jr. Why not?" Mulder looked at the puppy, well he did look like a fox but . . . Fox jr.? The neighbors are going to have a field day. " Here set his playpen up in the kitchen," Scully said handing the contraption to Mulder "and remember to put some newspaper to line the bottom this time, please." While Mulder wrestled with the playpen, the phone rang. Scully answered it instinctively, " Scully" " Dana hi, this is mom. Has Fox convinced you against Fox Jr?" " No, I think I convinced him it fits, want to speak with him?" " No, No I just wanted to see what you two were doing tonight . I want to have some fun, Bill's coming in for the weekend and he doesn't know about the new puppy yet." " Oh mom, that would be fun. You should have seen Mulder when I came in, he just knew I was pregnant." " Ok so be here about 6:00 p.m. with the puppy, Ok?" She hung up, oh Bill deserved this little trick. Mulder looked at her flustered. " Why do you have so much trouble with these things? Here." With one hand, Scully flipped the playpen out forcefully, locking the sides without even touching them. "There, simple." Mulder closed his eyes in disbelief. " That's why we have dogs instead of kids." Scully said matter of factly as she went back towards the bedroom. She looked over her shoulder at him seductively, then continued. Mulder perked up and trotted after her closing the bedroom door behind them. 5:00 p.m. Scully laid in his arms, her hips cradled by his body, his arms draped possessively around her waist, his fingers brushing the top of the forest of faint red hair on her belly. He took a breath of her hair, exhaling heavily. He was finally content, complete. They've been busy since the D.J. ordeal ended, case after case. Poor Kaja must think we're awful parents for leaving her all the time. Was that how Scully felt when he ditched her so many years before? Abandoned, unwanted? Never Again. He inched closer to her, trying to merge with her, to become one entity. Scully shifted turning toward him laying her head on his chest. She nuzzled him softly and asked, " What time is it?" Mulder turned to look at the clock. " 5:00 p.m., we need to get the kids ready to go to grandmas." Mulder said in a jocular tone. Scully smiled, then added, " Do you like Fox Jr?" " Hmm?" Mulder confused, why wouldn't he. He was an adorable puppy. He had been considering getting another dog for a while, but didn't know if Scully wanted the added responsibility. Kaja was already a handful when they had to leave town. " Do you like Fox Jr?" Scully repeated lifting her head off his chest to turn her laser-like gaze towards him. Ah, caught in the tractor beams, must resist, must re . . . Mulder thought as he instinctively moved in for a kiss. A quick gentle kiss which told Scully what she wanted to know better than Mulder could have. " Good, " She said as she rolled out of bed, slipping into her silk robe. " Then put his collar on him, it's in the bag on the couch." Mulder found his boxers slipping them on as he traveled to the couch to search for the collar. While he was preoccupied, Scully picked out their clothes and started dressing. " You knew I'd go along with that name, didn't you?" Innocently Scully replied, " What do you mean Mulder?" " You put it on his bowls, his comb and brush, his collar and leash." " Well, I wanted everyone to know he's your son." Mulder smirked to himself as he came back in the room, the kids in tow. Placing Fox Jr on the bed, he fastened his bright blue collar around his neck. He looked at Kaja's bright purple collar with large yellow letters spelling her name, then he looked back at Fox jr.'s, which had his name in big yellow letters. If she was this meticulous with our pets, just imagine what she'd do with our kids. Scully came out of the bathroom clad in fitting boot cut pants, and a light-blue chamois shirt. Her feet shod in leather loafers. Her fiery mane subdued, tucked neatly behind her ears. Mulder smiled, she was so beautiful, my own personal goddess to love and cherish forever. " Who's that little Fox, is that mommy? Doesn't she look great?" Scully loved it when he watched her, his intense hazel eyes following her, caressing her. " You need to get dressed, we can't be late. We need time to set up. The look on his face when he thinks . . Well, get going." Scully said snatching her newest baby from Mulder's arms as he got up to dress. She led Kaja out to the car to wait for Mulder. A few minutes later, Mulder came outside. Scully had the car running, he hoped Bill jr. wouldn't kill him before they could spill the joke. Mulder took a deep breath before backing out of the driveway. 3 hours later. Good thing Scully went and got Fox jr. when she did, or that big brute would've killed me. He reached across the table and belted me one good when Scully told him about the new baby named after his father. Caught me completely off guard. Then he grabbed me by the collar and gave me a good shaking till Scully came in with little Fox. She was right though, the look on his face was priceless, well not totally priceless, Mulder thought as he touched his swelling eye. Scully laid him on the bed and put an ice pack on his eye, then started laughing. " It's not funny, Scully." Scully nodded in agreement as she giggled harder. " Scully it's not funny." Mulder insisted. His insistence seemed to only add fuel to the fire, as Scully rolled off the bed, collapsing on the floor in laughter. " The look on his face. The look on your face when he hit you." Scully managed to get out between guffaws. The laughter was infectious as Mulder started to giggle. Okay, so it was kind of funny, but it still hurt.
