SUMMARY: Off-Kilter veteran Paramedic Fox Mulder meets the new Medical Examiner for Georgetown Medical Center, Dr. Dana Scully. A deep friendship instantly develops as they have numerous X-file like adventures on the night shift. Ninth part of the Night Shift series. Three months later 3 am Feb 24 Hey Scully" Mulder said walking into the morgue. "Mulder hey, be with you in 30 minutes." Scully said flipping her goggles down and starting the saw, to open the skull of the body on her table. Mulder quickly escaped to her office. 30 minutes later Scully came in "What's up?" "Birthday present." Mulder said handing her a small box. "You finally remembered, thank you." Now lets see what is it, she thought. Jewelry? Too big, it looks like a clock box. She opened it quickly "Tomb Raider?! I've been waiting for this to come out! How did you get it?" "I know somebody who knows somebody who owes me a favor. Like it?" "Of course." Scully said grabbing him and hugging him tightly. Mulder savored the hug, which lingered a bit too long. Scully pulled away "Every girl should have a boyfriend as thoughtful as you Mulder." "Boyfriend?" "Yeah you're a boy who's a friend, Boy friend. I'd call you a girlfriend but well . . ." "Gotcha thanks, I was umm thinking girlfriend, I was wondering, if you didn't mind, if you'll come to the Vineyard with me this weekend." "The vineyard? Yeah, why?" "Well I have my dad's property up there and I was going to do a little fall yard work. And . . ." "You needed some help?" "No, some company. I don't like being there by myself." "Sure I'll come with you Mulder." "Thanks Scully. This means a lot to me. Well are you going to load it up or what? I got to see it." Scully quickly unwrapped the game and began installing it. Saturday evening A long hard day of yard work and Scully was tired. Now I remember why I got an apartment, she thought as she soaked in the tub. She came out in her off white satin pajamas and was greeted by 25 white candles in various places. Candles? She thought as she walked into the kitchen. "Hey yardgirl. I got your favorite chicken and broccoli." Scully smiled and sat down where her food was. She noticed that she was next to him instead of across, but didn't think much about it. The vanilla scent of the candles and the warm Chinese food, completely relaxed her. They talked about what to do with the backyard and new strategies for Tomb Raider, when Mulder suddenly switched topics "If I was to settle down, it would be in a place like this." Whoa, where'd that one come from, Scully thought as she turned to face him. "Really? Why?" "The memories, the good ones. Summers in the park, playing baseball, swimming in the ocean, playing on the beach. It's just a great place to raise a family." "I never thought of you as a father Mulder." Mulder smiled "I never thought of you as a mother Scully. I just hope I'm a good one." Mulder said looking her deep in her eyes. The double entendres of his comments seeping through, as he leaned closer to her. They moved closer to each other, they're lips readying for the long awaited kiss when Scully felt something trickle from her nose. She jerked a way and touched it. Blood! "Dang it! Nose bleed!" "Probably the altitude." Mulder said picking up a napkin and helping her stop the bleeding. "Yeah it does that." Only when I'm about to kiss the man of my dreams. Way to go Nose, you know how to ruin a romantic moment, Scully thought as Mulder moved away from her and finished eating.
