Third part of the Night Shift series. *********************************************************** *********************************************************** Next Day 6:30 p.m. "Hello Dr. Scully." Scully said quickly picking up the phone "Hey Dana, its mom." "Hey Mom what's up?" "Just checking on you, make sure your okay. Your little friend there what was his name, Bear, Fish?" "Fox mom, Fox. And he prefers to be called Mulder." "Sure, sure Fox, well is he?" "No he doesn't go on till 10 tonight. Look mom I gotta go, I have some work to do." "Okay well call me when you get home." "I will bye mom." Mothers, Scully thought as she hung up. I'm twenty-nine years old and she still wants me to check in with her every day. She looked up to see a transport guy and walked out to meet him. "Have fun with this one." He said as he exited quickly, Scully shrugged off the warning and uncovered the body. She gasped suddenly, he was blue, dark blue. There seemed to be no outward signs of strangulation or asphyxiation, interesting Scully thought as she started her autopsy. It was 10:15 when Scully finished her through exam of Mr. Neil Allen. It seemed by the damage to the tissues, he died of asphyxiation till she discovered his body had been drained of blood and two puncture wounds on his throat. Interview with the Vampire flashed in her mind, good book. Vampires don't exist only people who believe they are. Exsanguination and asphyxiation she wrote on Mr. Allen's chart as his cause of death when Mulder broke through the door. "Hey Scully, whoa what happened to him?" He said looking strangely at the body on the table. "Exsanguinated and asphyxiated." "Autoerotic or normal?" Scully flushed involuntarily. "Good Question, I believe normal, no belt marks or anything around his neck, no bag was found around his head, he was found like this." "Autopsy done and everything?" Scully flashed him a look that would have froze another man then said, "What do you got for me?" "I think the same thing, blue woman." She pulled the sheet back to see a dark blue tinted woman. Scully checked her neck and found the puncture marks. "What, what do you see Scully?" "Mr. Allen here and your lady both have puncture wounds on their necks. Betcha she has no blood either." "No blood, you mean sucked out like a vampire?" "That would be down right Spooky don't you think Mulder?" Mulder smiled " Now where was blue boy found?" He asked as Scully looked at his chart. "30th and main." "Hmm she was found at 28th and main." "A vampire invading your route Mulder?" "Could be." Scully laughed, "Well how else could the blood be removed?' "Needle and syringe." "Oh they'll sit there while a needle and syringe are put together and put in their neck draining them of there blood?" Mulder said sarcastically "No, I believe they were drugged some how, maybe followed then exsaguinated. That's not important. What I want to know is how and when they were asphyxiated. I should be getting the tox reports from Mr. Allen in 20 minutes or so. Once I do her, I'll see if were dealing with the same person. Here roll her over here." Mulder obeyed then stepped back, Scully noticed the maneuver. "A little squeamish, are we?" "A little." Scully started with her usual Y incision and Mulder bolted for the nearest door with his hand covering his mouth. Scully giggled to herself, amused at his discomfort then continued her autopsy. Later Same as Mr. Allen, probably has the OD of Diazepam in her too. Where's Mulder? She thought as she went looking for him and saw him just outside her door, looking pale and embarrassed. "You okay?" "Besides a little embarrassed and queasy, yeah I'm okay." "It's alright, even the best of us are surprised once and a while. I can't make any conclusive finds till I get the tox back on her. Got time to finish our game of Doom?" Mulder perked up as she reached her hand out to him and he grasped it lightly. Electric waves rushed through his body from her touch as she led him to her office. "So have your nightmares stopped?" "Huh?" Mulder said engrossed in the game. "Your nightmares, do you have them any more?" "Yeah, but not as frequently." "So the therapy just cleared up what they were about, not stopping them." "Well not really see my nightmares weren't really centered around my sisters disappearance it was something else." "What?" Mulder thought, I can't believe I'm going to tell her this as he started to explain. "I had a bad . . . an abusive relationship back during my Oxford days guess you could say it scarred me for life." Scully paused the game and turned toward him looking deep into his eyes. He looked so vulnerable and fragile for a moment then his confident facade resurfaced. "Want to tell me about it?" Mulder's mind screamed no, but his mouth didn't listen. " Well she was my first really serious girlfriend, Phoebe Green. Brunette, 5'9, gorgeous green eyes, psychology major too. She treated me like dirt, screwed with my head, almost drove me crazy then she used me as the focus of her senior thesis. Psychosis of a Young adult natural or acquired?" "Bastard! What did she do to you? Did she abuse you physically?" Scully said pissed that someone would do that to another person, especially someone who loved them. "No, no just emotional and mental abuse. Sexual abuse in a way but I'm not getting into that ever." "So must not sleep much?" "No, when I do it's sporadic, don't even own a bed. I just camp out on the couch with the TV on. I don't know the glow of the TV is kind of comforting." "Hmm no wonder people think you're spooky." "Do you think I'm spooky?" "Well to an extent, but a nice spooky. A good spooky, Sunflower seed?" Scully said pointing to the bowl of shelled seeds on her desk "David's" she tempted. Mulder smiled and grabbed a handful. She watched his mouth as he held the seed between his teeth, gently cracking it and grabbing the meat out with his tongue. She became engrossed in watching him. No wonder he calls it an oral fixation. She had never been mesmerized by a man's mouth before, but his was so pleasingly full and pouty, especially that bottom lip. She just wanted to kiss him and suckle lightly on that bottom lip till he screamed for mercy. Oh god I'm staring, concentrate on something else, she thought as she unpaused the game. They proceeded to whip demon butt till the tox report came. "I knew it. Same thing, Diazepam! We've got a serial." Mulder peeked over Scully's shoulder, the heat of his breath playing along her neck. "So it's not a vampire." "No Mulder. Why would a vampire have to drug its prey, then why would it have to asphyxiate them after death? This is just a sick loony, trying to freak the cops out." "So no vampire?" "No Mulder." "No sexual abuse to the bodies?" "No, I checked when I saw the drug in Mr. Allen." "Want my opinion of the guy?" "Sure go ahead profiler boy." "Profiling wonder boy to you. The person is about 20-30 years old. Reads Anne Rice prolifically, has some sort of medical training. Definitely male, and definitely abused as a child physically and mentally. By asphyxiating right before death, he's snuffing out some voice in his head probably his abuser. He removes the blood and probably drinks it, believes it provides strength. He probably has a great lawyer, they all do these days." "GO BOY! Now tell me why you never practiced again?" "Do you think I want to be inside freaks like that's heads everyday?" "Point! Well lets finish up, the police will be here soon for my report." 3 a.m. Mulder left an hour ago to respond to a shooting. The police are never going to catch this guy. He wouldn't make a mistake large enough for them to catch. Why do I miss Mulder, it's not like he's been gone long, just an hour. Your worried, no you're lonely. He fills a void that needs to be filled in your life, a good friend. Wonder where he lives? Oh good here he comes. "Hey Scully, here's another one, just like the others, but this time guess who got caught in the act?" "The killer??" "Yep seems he didn't dope the guy up enough and he fought him. The guys alright, the killers locked down and I was right with my profile too." "So who's this?" "Oh during the fight they kind of rolled on our friend here. Guess our 'vampire' got a little greedy tonight." "Are you going to stay this time or try and break the record for the hundred yard dash again?" "I'll go in your office and relax on your couch, if you don't mind." And with that Mulder disappeared into her office.
