The “Tico” is the most powerful anti-aircraft ship in the U.S. Fleet. It was designed to defend carrier battle groups against aircraft and anti-ship missile threats. It also has excellent anti-submarine and anti-ship capabilities. It’s greatest asset, however, is its fire control system. The system, named AEGIS, ingrates the ships weapons and command systems. This system allows each ship to detect, track and classify almost an unlimited number air targets. The system can also engage multiple targets simultaneously. The AEGIS system is now being employed on many other U.S. Navy ships.
