| Much like the national Geographic Areas,
the Southwest Area is divided up into nine Zones.
Four Zones are located in Arizona, including the Northern Arizona Zone, Central West Zone,
White Mountain Zone, and the Southeast Zone and five are located in New Mexico, including
the Taos Zone, Santa Fe Zone, Albuquerque Zone, Lincoln Zone, and Gila/Las Cruces Zone.
Zone Management: Each Zone establishes it's own interagency Zone Management Board. The Zone Management Board is comprised of representatives from the Federal and State agencies within the Zone and is responsible for overseeing fire management activities within the Zone, including training, type II team management and organization, and establishment and daily operations of the Zone Coordination Center, among others. Zone Coordination Center: The focal point for moving firefighting resources between units within the Zone, coordinating resources coming into the Zone, dispatching for local unit personnel going out of the Zone, and collecting and disseminating fire intelligence information from units is the Zone Coordination Center. With the exception of the Northern Arizona Zone, which has two Centers,a Zone Coordination Center is established within each Zone. To identify each unit within the Zone, a 3-letter identifier is assigned (listed below). Currently, all Zone Coordination Center's are located in the local USDA Forest Service Supervisor's Office. |

| The Northern Arizona Zone has two separate offices in which resources are dispatched. The Flagstaff Office is located in Flagstaff, AZ and the Grand Canyon Office is located in Williams, AZ at the respective Forest Supervisor's Office for the Coconino and Kaibab NF's. |
